Deep Politics was conceived during the lengthiest gestation period between Grails albums, and reflects a deeper, more educated level of concentration. In their ongoing exploration of occult/fringe culture and the rich history of film music, they have cultivated a unique environment that inspires both an eternal sense of longing and an indelible sense of dread. Produced by the band, as always, the most immediately noticeable advances are the lush string arrangements (courtesy of acclaimed composer Timba Harris) and increasing use of the same kind of fetishistic cut-and-paste production techniques that made producers like RZA and MF Doom hip-hop legends. It's a seemingly unlikely twist to the Grails aesthetic, but not unusual given the size of the pot in which they've stirred just about every genre imaginable. Through tireless exploration and awe-inspiring execution, Grails have found their true calling as purveyors of a new kind of library music, to be discovered by future generations of crate diggers and curious forward-thinkers.

Formed in 2006, Long Distance Calling released a demo entitled “Dmnstrtn” in late 2006, with their official debut “Satellite Bay” surfacing in 2007 via Viva Hate Records. A split EP with the band Leech from Switzerland, entitled “090208”, was released in 2008, followed by a deal with Superball Music and the release of their second full length album, “Avoid The Light”, in April 2009. The Münster-based German instrumental rock quintet have returned with their third instrumental record, unashamedly staying the course on a scene loaded with power metal, black metal and everything in between, where singers great and small hammer the bands’ messages home.

Rather than baffling the masses with a wall of odd time signatures and synchopated rhythm – the proclaimed formula so many bands use and abuse when claiming to be progressive – Long Distance Calling’s new outing serves up seven tracks written from a traditional song-oriented perspective in spite of the extended arrangements. This translates to instant appeal for fans of indie and prog rock as well as metal. “Our writing is very song orientated; the song itself is the most important thing. We’re mostly jamming when we write songs, trying to find a basic structure and then filling and building it up with sounds, melodies and atmospheres. On the new album we rediscovered the power of the riff. It's the most diverse recording we’ve done so far.” That diversity comes from the individual members’ personal tastes and influences, citing acts like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Tool, A Perfect Circle and Alice In Chains as bands that have inspired the energy. “We don't listen a lot to other instrumental bands and we don’t see Long Distance Calling as a ‘postrock’ band at all; it's instrumental rock. Classic progressive bands such as Rush or Dream Theater haven't been a really big influence, but it’s cool that some people hear them in our music anyway.” The suggestion that Long Distance Calling has effectively cut their potential audience in half by not having a singer is met with contempt by its members. “We didn't plan to be an instrumental band, it just happened. At first we couldn’t find a singer who was good enough. Later on we realized that our songs worked pretty well without vocals. We prefer to allow the music to get our message across without any frontman bullshit. We enjoy creating a special atmosphere while rocking without the typical musical borders. The fact that we don't have a singer has enabled us to play to completely different crowds of people, supporting bands like Opeth, Katatonia, Dredg, labelmates And You Will Know Us By Trail Of Dead, Anathema, Coheed And Cambria, and Deftones.” A quality that is underlined by appearances on a broad variety of festivals such as Rock am Ring, Roadburn, Eurosonic Noorderslag, Area 4, Summer Breeze, Burg Herzberg or Wave Gotik Treffen. Long Distance Calling push the envelope even further this time out with the surprise guest appearance by Armored Saint/ex-Anthrax vocalist John Bush on “Middleville”. The song pulls effective double duty in that it showcases Long Distance Calling as a band that can indeed play both sides of the coin, and presents Bush in a brilliant and unexpected new light. “From the beginning of the band we thought it's cool to do the unexpected, especially from an instrumental band. We asked Peter Dolving from The Haunted to sing on a track of the debut album. We also did that on ‘Avoid The Light’ with Jonas Renkse from Katatonia. For the new one we made a list and John was on that list. We asked him and he wanted to do it, which is great because it’s a very strong song. We don’t like to go the easy way and ask the most obvious singers. Nobody is expecting John to appear on our album, but he’s such a great singer that the result speaks for itself.” However, John Bush’s guest-appearance on the album is not the only reason that should encourage people to check out Long Distance Calling. In times of overproduction and compression in order to get a pumped up sound Long Distance Calling went for the opposite and worked on an organic production that allows their music to breathe. Hence, the audiophile quintet headed to Hours Studios in Hannover where Celtic Frost, Donots, Paradise Lost, Eloy, Scorpions, Rolling Stones and many more produced some of their classic albums. The self-titled album was recorded with Benjamin Schäfer who has worked with diverse bands such as Celtic Frost and Subway To Sally. The result is a production that allows each instrument to unfold its unique sound and its waves to travel the air. Instead of just cutting your eardrums it’s a 3d sound that surrounds you like a cozy cocoon. With regards to issuing the new music as a self-titled album, the band reveals the name Long Distance Calling is tied directly to the concept of the record, which focuses on time, space and distance. “We are just a tiny part of the ever growing universe. It's the important third album, so we decided to call the album Long Distance Calling as a statement.”

Album: Our Ceasing Voice - When The Headline Hits Home

Year: 2011

Tracklist

01. Passenger Killed In Hit And Run

04. The Only Ones Dead (Are Those Who Are Forgotten)
05. Hopes Of Yore
06. Summer's Orange Haze

Based on the upcoming novel by Sebastian Obermeir, Our Ceasing Voice's new 2011 album pursues the concept established with their 2009 EP Steadied Stars In The Morphium Sky, while the development to a darker, more dynamic sound is clearly no...ticeable. Beautiful and saddening at the same time, the Austrians draw attention to fragility, passionately making one's flesh creep and thereby portraying a dramatic story full of yearning and desperation.

How it will end, however, lies only in your hands.

A great release, please support the band!

Too straight forward and too filthy to get back to the so-called hardcore fan base that bloomed on Modern Life Is War's grave, too kind to belong to the crust/sludge scene, the three hard workers from Birds In Row seem to avoid their city as much as labels.Then you can still wonder where do they take place between Modern Life Is War, Kylesa or Cursed. The first ones for the guts unpacking and their heartbreaking spleen, the second for their punk roughness and their abilities to enlight dirt and the last ones for the urging adrenalin discharges.But it is certainly not that. It is hardcore as it is supposed to be played. Period. With passion, deprived of any splendor and made so they can go stuff some asphalt half of the year.And yet, according to the 3000 miles they're dealing with in a twelve months time, if you haven't seen them less than 20 miles from your home, it can only mean two things : you have no friends, or no taste at all. And if there's not much we can do about the first reason, we can sure work on the other one.

Tephra is a band from Braunschweig, Germany that exists since the end of 2003. Before they formed Tephra, all the members played in various local bands that were musically quite diversified. Consequently, they bring many different influences into the band. Tephra has developed a unique atmospheric sludge metal sound from these varied sources.
Their first release—as a four piece band—was a self-produced Demo CD with 4 songs.
At the beginning of 2005 they entered the studio to record their first full length Tephra which was released via Riptide Recordings in March 2005.

While constantly touring for their debut LP through all of Germany and Europe, they started playing some new songs that incorporated keyboards, samples and a fifth member.

In March 2007 they once again entered the studio to record their sophomore album, entitled A Modicum Of Truth. It was released in October 2007 by Riptide Recordings.

At the end of 2008 they went back to being a four-piece, due to the job related departure of their keyboard player.
After spending the last two years writing new songs and playing a few selected shows and festivals, the band entered the studio in September of 2010 to record their 3rd album called Tempel. It will be released on February 18th, 2011 by their new label Golden Antenna
Also a split 7” with Omega Massif was released by Cyclone Empire in November of 2010.

Windmills By The Ocean is the title of a recently unearthed recording from August 2003, the sole output of Boston natives Mike Davis, Dave Dunbar, Brooke Gillespie, Bryant Clifford Meyer and Thos Niles. Since the project’s beginning and end, the creators have continued on in such bands as 27, Anodyne, Isis, and Red Sparowes, but the relevancy of this intense recording can be most appreciated now, three years after it’s conception. The variety and depth to this (mostly) instrumental music documentation reaches far beyond those of any mere side-project, and the heavy-music genres are in dire need of something this refreshing.

These rock-based songs incorporate so many elements of “drone” the group could almost reside next to their celestial forefathers Sunn O))) and Earth, except with more melody… and drums. However, the usage of keyboard and electronic elements alongside several guitars make the album more comparable to Sigur Ros than Black Sabbath, but without compromising any of the heavy metal elements the members have become most-known for. The additional usage of improvisation and mild repetition allows the listener to relax into a slow headbang across five songs that each surpass the six-minute mark. But what makes this album most impressive is the triumphant, anthemic feel to it, especially considering the group never even made it to the live setting.

The EP, Windmills By The Ocean - II, was released on February 1st 2011 and is now available to buy and download online. On March 1st it will be available on a physical copy too.

In Autumn 2006 the basis was laid down for a new group from its two founding members, George G. /guitar (ex-Choir Macabre) and John K. /guitar (Afformance). The main concept would be experimentation in heavy music. Without pre-set ideas on how or what to play they’ve started rehearsing giving birth to the first main riffs that would later on constitute the nucleus of what was next to come. On this ride after a couple of months along came Serafim G. (also of Ancestral House of the Sun, Uranium Cardinals, Frank Siddhartha) on drums. A few rehearsals followed with this line-up so they all start realizing their parts within this musical journey and how they could put their personal perspectives to the aid of the whole. Meantime and due to excessive obligations John K. had to leave. Danis A. on bass came in to save the day. The group re-started rehearsing in a frequent and consistent manner to bring out the best possible of each member so that musical entity that would be later referred to as Brotherhood Of Sleep could be conceived, grasped and in depth understood from everyone in the band. An esoteric approach which aims consciously to balance sound, mind and spirit.

… An ancient civilization descending ferociously through the sky. Low frequencies transmitting the Earth’s pulse deep in mountainous caverns where mystics in sacred slumber, share their secrets of old; giving way to the view of a Depthless Sea where all dreams seem to melt… The wind howls like a constant drumbeat above this small town of the East. Hate forecast for those who chose to baptize themselves in lies (yes, hate can sometimes be a noble virtue)… Love for the ones who choose to cherish and admire life’s beauty. Visualize the truth that was always within you. Listen.

Sun Of Nothing is a doom metal, sludge, black metal and noise-inspired four-piece band from Athens, Attica, Greece formed in 2000.

“…and the spiral keeps evolving abrasively downwards and inwards, approaching a liquid and unstable core. A heavy and dark core, enclosing the most acid elements: aural extremity, black and white nihilism, grim vagueness, cynical extroversion…”

Following their previous two masterpieces, Sun Of Nothing, the spearhead of Greek sonic extremity’s vanguard, are ready to release in collaboration with CTS Productions their third full length album, entitled The Guilt of Feeling Alive. Beyond black metal bleakness, post-metal ingenuity and post-punk numbness, incorporating Koreisch’s cross-genre eclecticism and Godflesh’s nihilistic aura, combining Shining’s catatonic chord pounding, Khanate’s crawling gloom and Discordance Axis’ ear crushing sonic blasts - Sun Of Nothing manage to create a sonic identity that’s both personal and radical.

Surpassing any easy categorization, they create their unquestionably greatest and richest release to date, adding the peak to an imaginary triptych - a memorial dedicated to the sonic violence and the inner darkness.

Current lineup consists of :

Ilias Apostolakis - vocals;
Giannis Panoutsopoulos - guitars;
Andreas Starogiannis - bass guitar (currently also End, Enshadowed);
Dimitris Zafeiropoulos - drums (currently also End, Enshadowed).

I Am The Agent is an alternative rock band from Newcastle/Central Coast of NSW, Australia.

The band consists of main songwriter; Michael Gale (Guitar, Vocals), brothers Daniel Lambert (Guitar) and John Lambert (Drums), and Joseph Bourke (Bass). Each taking influences from numerous alternative genres and styles - including 90’s grunge/noise (Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Nine Inch Nails), post-hardcore (At The Drive-In, mewithoutYou, Thrice) as well as taking core songwriting principles from indie and pop influences (Kevin Devine, Bright Eyes, Manchester Orchestra).

What results is a set of personal, delicate, and often damning ‘one man and his guitar’ style songs, which are meticulously shaped and structured into full band arrangements, that can be taken in many different directions by the performers on stage. This haunting improvisation and experimentation system is what people find most rewarding about seeing the band play live.

Since their formation mid-2009, the band has performed at over 50 events in newcastle, sydney and central coast, supporting bands such as Peabody, Calling All Cars and Long Island Sound, and shared stages (and floors) with Bluejuice, Baregrillz, ALPS, Protectors, Phobiac and Bats & Battleships.

ΔGNT has produced and sold out of a limited run of EP’s; had unexpected success in band competitions; and consumed several hundred cans of energy drinks.

They are currently working on a new EP, which is going to be released soon.

The history of Koloss began in the late summer of 2007, in a small town called Vetlanda, when longtime friends Alexander Johansson and Cristoffer Pinaitis Karlsson decided to start yet another band together. They had played together before in several bands that had broken up for whatever reasons. So Alexander talked to Oscar Siggeström, a guy he worked with as an electrician, and asked if he was interested to start something up. He was, and with him came guitarist Victor Clausson. The band was now complete and started writing some songs together. At this point the line-up was Oscar on drums, Victor on guitar, Alexander on guitar and Cristoffer on bass and vocals.

Most of the songwriting was made by Alexander and Cristoffer and that led to Cristoffer taking over the guitar playing from Victor, and so Victor was left playing bass. This would be the line-up for their first gig at the local festival "Sandskogsfestivalen" in May 2009. In the summer that followed Victor explained to the other guys that he was'nt happy playing bass and that he wanted to play the guitar again. So Alexander stepped in on bass and Victor and Cristoffer were now guitarists of the band. This would be the line-up for their second gig, once again at "Sandskogsfestivalen", in September that same year.

Later that fall Victor left the band and so Alexander went back to playing guitar and the search for a new member began. The guy for this job would turn out to be Henrik Hedberg. So the band started rehearsing a lot and in the beginning of 2010 the band decided to record their work. And so in February 2010 the guys borrowed some equipment and cleared out their rehearsal space. The only thing left in there was Oscars drums, surrounded by a cage of microphones, a sofa with Alexander's computer in front of it and a coffeemaker. And so began the making of "End Of The Chayot". Victor was there through most of the recording sessions to film the progress and to lend a helping hand when needed.

The recordings were completed sometime later that spring and the guys met up at Alexanders to start the mixing process. They took several long breaks during that summer and early fall but at the end of November "End Of The Chayot" was complete.
