News: Omega Massif are history

OMEGA MASSIF IS HISTORY.

Dear friends, what I have to write today, makes all Omega Massif members sad and sick at the same time, but sometimes things develop and sometimes good things end. Omega Massif is done.

We want to thank everyone who supported us during the last nine years! All the fans, bookers and of course all our labels, who did a great job for us.  A special thanks goes out to DENOVALI, who did their best to help us with our stuff during the last years. Thank you TIMO and THOMAS.

Stay tuned for our last song, a cover version of "Don't Bring Me Flowers" on the upcoming GODFLESH tribute sampler on FOBOBILE RECORDS "Fathers Of Our Flesh".  Look out for upcoming bands with Omega Massif members. Very soon. Via this FB-account.

There also will be ONE LAST GOODBYE-SHOW. You will be informed about the "when and where" HERE.

EDIT: the goodbye-show will be the only show we'll be playing. All other shows are cancelled. Sorry. This Sucks. We Know.

So THANK YOU and TAKE CARE

"With Grass Above Ones Head is comprised of ten songs that reflect, I suppose, how I've felt over the past year. I think this album is much more relaxed for the most part with a couple of exceptions, lots of soft synths and rich harmonies. Anyway, if you like it please download and let me know what you think. Donate if you feel i've earned it. " - Ryan Taylor (Shodai)

North is the moniker of the Arizona-based atmospheric sludge metal quintet.

Formed by drummer Zachary Hansen, bassist Evan Leek, and guitarist Ty Engle as an instrumental trio in 2005, North added guitarist Matthew Mutterperl and self released their EP “Siberia” in the Summer of 2006, followed by extensive touring.

In 2007 the group released their follow up EP “Ruins,” noted for exploring a darker sound previously hinted at on “Siberia”.

After adding keyboardist Peter Ridgeway and vocalist Kyle Hardy, the critically acclaimed “What You Were” was released in July 2008 by Toledo, Ohio-based Cavity Records, followed by two years of various tours throughout the U.S.

Not shortly thereafter, Ty Engle left the band, and writing for the next full length began in January 2010. Pete left amicably in 2011, and guitarist Kyle Szostek was welcomed later that year. Their fourth album, The Great Silence, was themed around the question of extraterrestrial life and saw an August 2012 release with six weeks of tour support covering much of the US.

2013 saw the departure of vocalist Kyle Hardy as well as guitarist Kyle Szostek, leaving the band as a three-piece with Evan Leek assuming both vocals and bass.

In 2014 North released their fifth album called Metanoia.

The Inquisition: 010.Magma Waves

1. How did you come up with the name of the band?

We had several ideas, all of which ended up with one guy in the band not liking them. In the end we wanted something we all liked. Our drummer Dennis then got the idea of Magma Waves somehow. He cannot even remember how. And with that everybody was more or less satisfied. The most important thing about band names is that if you have a band name, no matter how stupid it sounds or what it means, it will eventually grow on the band until the music is bigger than the name. And if the people like the band for their music it doesn’t matter how they’re called.

2. Do you have a standard procedure of creating a song? Do you just jam around or is there a main riff and the track is build up on it?

Usually there is one main riff by Ansgar. And usually we all love it and then we just work around that. In the end everybody influences the structure and everybody is free to express themselves. Since we don’t set any limits to ourselves we experiment a lot and try to include new elements into our music.

3. What are your influences and what kind of music do you hear when you are at home?

Everybody has different influences. Ansgar and Josi have a hardcore and slight indie/punk background and are really into post-rock these days, Mathias is the stoner rocker and Dennis used to be really into metal but listens to almost everything from jazz, j-pop, chiptunes to sludge, doom, stoner, post-rock and classical music, 60s soul and 70s rock. Musically our biggest influence used to be pg.lost and many of our riffs sound like them but that changed over time after we found our personal style. We still love their music of course. Mathias’ influences are Queens of the Stone Age, Truckfighters and stuff like this and Dennis is a little more into heavy stuff like Cult of Luna, Fall of Efrafa, Isis and Rosetta.

4. What’s the first record you've ever bought ?

Dennis: Iron Maiden – The Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Mathias: probably a Modern Talking Best of
Ansgar: some single from the 90s
Josi: some 90s gangster rap

5. Name a band that you would like to share the stage or tour with?

There are numerous bands that would offer a great opportunity for us to share our music with their audience. Then again there are some personal preferences. Dennis would love to support Boris or Mono in Japan, Mathias would like to tour with Nine Inch Nails and he probably wouldn’t say no to a support slot for Queens of the Stone Age, Ansgar would like to tour with pg.lost (as do Dennis and Josi).

6. Did the internet and specially the blogs helped to spread your music around the world? Name a place (country) that you were surprised to know your music has reached to?

A few blogs and websites shared our EP and definitely helped spread our name. Also some online samplers and video compilations featured our music which gave us a good head start for our first release. The most surprising land our music reached was Indonesia. We received a long mail from someone in Tasikmalaya which is only a two day ride by train from Bali, he told us. That was pretty amazing.

7. Do you support the idea of bandcamp where fans can decide the price or services like spotify?

We totally support the idea to give out mp3s via a name-your-price model. Our experience with ex-bands shows that mp3s with a fixed price hardly sell at all. The listeners really appreciate the attitude of bands who give out their mp3s for free and have the customers decide whether to donate something or not. And they reward it with a donation. And the people who just don’t have any spare change for the EP can still download it, burn it onto a CD, listen to it in the car and tell their friends who hear the CD in their friends’ car which this band is. This is mouth-to-mouth promotion and this is a very valuable system for a band.

8. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

This year we want to record our first full length album and hope that we aroused enough attention by then that we might get a nice deal with a small and devoted label. We want to play live a lot and keep writing music. So in five years we probably have two records out and played many shows and have a loyal and awesome fanbase.

9. Is the artwork of an album important nowadays in the digital era?

We actually had the discussion about whether we need an album cover or not for our first release which was digital only at first (we are currently working on a CD version). But especially in the digital age you need a good artwork. These days digital artworks are even more interactive and present to the listener when their iTunes turns into the colours of the artworks’ edges, when it becomes the smartphone wallpaper while you listen to it etc. Therefore a unique and memorable artwork is important. Apart from that I think that the cover artwork is still the visual representation of the music. After the music was written the artwork is the visual expression of the artists’ audio impression while they listened to it beforehand.

10. What is your favorite album cover?

Dennis: Iron Maiden – Killers / Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Mathias: John Frusciante – Niandra Lades And Usually Just A T-shirt

Ansgar: Brand New - Daisy

Josi: O’Brother - Disillusion

11. It seems that a lot of people are turning on vinyl again. Why do you think that is and which is your preferable media format?

Vinyl seemed uninteresting to the masses for like a decade in the 90s because people were overwhelmed by new media formats. But quality will endure all which is why people came back to buying vinyl. It is made for eternity, has a way better sound and feels better when you hold it in your hands than CDs. Personally we love vinyl and would love to release everything we have on vinyl but for a small band without proper budgets it’s simply difficult to pay for such a production by ourselves. That’s why we hope to get a small release deal for our first LP or even our already digitally released EP.

12. What's the funniest story or moment as a band?

Well there are the occasional party stories one could tell or how nervous one gets before the show starts. But there is more to being in a band. The moment when you jam over a riff and everybody feels that you’ve just created the perfect part for the song or when you get asked to play as support for an awesome band or at a great festival, and also when someone comes to you after a concert and tells you how they liked the show or your album. Since we are only together in this lineup for a year now not much has happened to us yet.

Glasgow Coma Scale was formed in February 2011 by Piotr and Marek Kowalski. The two brothers and trained classical musicians lived their lives between Krakow, Barcelona and Frankfurt. However, they never got the chance to play together in the same band. Along with drummer Helmes Bode the idea has now come full circle. If the Kowalskis are the “head” and “heart” of the group, then Bode delivers pumping blood and a dense connective tissue.

Glasgow Coma Scale is named after a neurological method that helps to assess the status of the central nervous system and classify the patient’s state of disorder. For those who want to know if the coma therapy really works, go and listen to these guys on stage. If you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please mosh and ask for pain killers in the form of MP3 (EP Apophenia released in February 2014).

The Inquisition: 009.Catacombe

1. How did you came up with the name of the band?

The name came from the fact that an earlier rehearsal room was in a place that look just like catacombs, and by association the idea to name the band Catacomb as surged, but in fact there was already a band called Catacomb, so an "e" was added at end to make the name original, and Catacombe was born!

2. Do you have a standard procedure of creating a song? Do you just jam around or is there a main riff and the track is build up on it?

There's no standard procedures to create songs, the things happen naturally, sometimes one of us bring a riff and we start jamming over till we get something, or we just start jamming and let it roll, it's aleatory and sometimes we make some great song in a single rehearsal and other times it takes weeks till we get a song completely done.

3. What are your influences and what kind of music do you hear when you are at home?

Each one of us has it's own musical preferences and influences, I (Gil) am a big fan of stoner rock, sludge, post-rock/metal, progressive rock, but i also listen frequently other stuff, from jazz to some genres of electronic music, noise and drone things ...It depends on the mood, and it's common to all the members in Catacombe, we listen to a great variety of music, we are not into special type of music.

4. What’s the first record you've ever bought ?

The first I (Gil) really bought, as i could remember, was Bleach from Nirvana, and i still listen to it nowadays from time to time.

5. Name a band that you would like to share the stage or tour with ?

As a band and concerning our style let's name two, for example Russian Circles and Caspian and at a more personal level I would say Tool.

6. Did the internet and specially the blogs helped to spread your music around the world? Name a place (country) that you were surprised to know your music has reached to?

Yes for sure, internet nowadays is the main tool to reach the entire world, we have already reached many places around the globe, but one was somehow surprising, we received a message from a guy in Iran apologizing for not being able to buy our records cause due to Iran's policies he couldn't buy anything related to music art or culture out of his country, but internet and digital music broke trough all those frontiers.

7. Do you support the idea of bandcamp where fans can decide the price or services like spotify?

Bandcamp is a good platform to sell your music and merch, you can easily set up your own store having total control over it, you can also give your music for free if you want, fans may decide do pay what they want, yes it's a definitely a great platform. Other services like Spotify that can make your music reach new listeners are also good, but I'm not aware how it really works for musicians in terms of revenues, it seems like Spotify earns big money out of it and musicians are paid almost nothing.

8. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

In 5 years we'll be making new songs, releasing new albums, doing concerts, basically we'll be doing what we enjoy most for sure!

9. Is the artwork of an album important nowadays in the digital era?

It's always important, no matter if it's digital or not, the artwork is part of the whole.

10. Which is your favorite album cover?

Tool´s Lateralus album cover (the version with different layers), by Alex Grey! ☺ http://youtu.be/qUOzp609igA

11. It seems that a lot of people are turning on vinyl again. Why do you think that is and which is your preferable media format?

Nowadays the CD is obsolete, most people listening music on their phone, mp3 player, laptop, etc etc... Vinyl is more a collectible object, has a ritual on its listening, the large artwork, warm sound, even the smell brings sensations!

12. What's the funniest story or moment as a band?

There's one recent funny moment that happened at our rehearsal room, some crazy Australian guy on vacation knocked on our door and asked if he could watch our rehearsal for a while as he was listening outside and he was enjoying our music a lot, we said it was ok and invited him in, we start playing again and the guy started freaking out to the music, with completely insane body movements, it was hilarious!

Catacombe recenty released their newest album "Quidam".

The Inquisition: 008.Wander

1. How did you came up with the name of the band?

The band name comes from a videogame called Shadow of the Colossus. Originally, we came up with Waking Wander as the name, but we cut it to Wander because the original was too redundant.

2. Do you have a standard procedure of creating a song? Do you just jam around or is there a main riff and the track is build up on it?

Ryan (our drummer) writes the music, he plays around with some ideas on an acoustic and shows everyone their parts during practice and we all bring it to life

3. What are your influences and what kind of music do you hear when you are at home?

Ryan Francisco (drums): Mono, Toe, 65daysofStatic, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, te', Godspeed You Black Emperor
Joseph Aguda (Bass): I feel a good musician or artist exposes themselves to, and enjoys, a large range of things. Individually, we each have our own tastes, but we do share a love for Japanese music, videogame/movie scores, and instrumental music. Toe, Te', MONO, 65daysofstatic and Sega Genesis games to point a few.
Bernard Barcela (Guitar): I listen to post-rock, electronic music, soundtracks from videogames/movies. My guitar playing is influenced by pop punk.
Christian Francisco (Guitar): GY!BE. Classical music. Brahms, mozart, vivaldi, pretty cliche stuff.

4. What’s the first record you've ever bought?

Ryan: Arctic Monkeys: Whatever People Say That's What I'm Not
Christian: The Scorpion King Soundtrack. I just remember hearing a distorted guitar and was so confused. My guitar didn't sound like that, how the hell do i do THAT on a guitar? I think I was about 9 or 10 years old.
Joe: The first record I ever bought was Logic Will Break Your Heart by The Stills. Had a handful of golden songs in there.
Bernard: They're Only Chasing Safety by Underoath (I actually don't remember because I download/stream all my music)

5. Name a band that you would like to share the stage or tour with ?

Ryan: Mono
Bernard: MONO
Joe: Another high energy group, but one that has a different feeling from us. I personally would love to play with 9mm Parabellum Bullet, Polysics, or Anamanaguchi
Christian: I'd love to tour with Radiohead, Deafheaven, or maybe Explosions in the Sky.

6. Did the internet and specially the blogs helped to spread your music around the world? Name a place (country) that you were surprised to know your music has reached to?

Christian: To my surprise blogs have been posting Mourning on their site. I was surprised it was listed and review in Germany as well as posted in Russian and Ukrainian sites. There was this teenage fan from Singapore who messaged us saying he would bus to our gig in the major cities if we ever came to his country.
Ryan: Facebook has helped with keeping in touch with our fans, I was surprised to find that people like our band from Russia.
Bernard: I think some guy in the UK uploaded Wander tracks to Youtube.
Joe: The internet is one of the only reasons why music spreads to other places nowadays. I was stoked when someone from Greece ordered our vinyl. I think it was around the time civil unrest was going on which makes it even more crazy.

7. Do you support the idea of bandcamp where fans can decide the price or services like spotify?

Ryan: I think bandcamp is a great place to start, I think if our new fans like what they hear they shouldn't be pressured to downloading our music.
Christian: I hated spotify because of the ads. When it was on my computer it always opened automatically. I hated that.
Bernard: I love bandcamp. I fully support it.
Joe: Bandcamp is one of the better ways to spread music around the internet. Especially for underground/independent bands who can't really demand people to pay a premium for their stuff. We've found that people will pay for it even if its up for free, and the ones that do are the truest fans.

8. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Ryan: Playing more shows, meeting new friends, and traveling overseas
Christian: Graduated, doing music full time, or something music related. Hopefully with these guys doing legit tours.
Bernard: Touring japan (wishful thinking)

9. Is the artwork of an album important nowadays in the digital era?

Bernard: I feel that artwork is very important to an album, as it can reflect how an album would feel in terms of tone or attitude or whatever.
Ryan: I think album art helps people reference a bands album
Christian: Everything a band does is a statement. It's good to have a visual that accurately matches the music.

10. What is you favorite album cover?

Bernard: Starscream's "Future, Towards the Edge of Forever"

Christian: Modest Mouse "Good News for People Who Love Bad News"

Joe: Deafheaven's "Roads to Judah"

Ryan: None

11. It seems that a lot of people are turning on vinyl again. Why do you think that is and which is your preferable media format?

Christian: I started getting into vinyl a couple years ago. I was fascinated by the 1920's and early 20th century in general so I liked collecting old 78s vs rock records. It started as research for this steampunk/cyberpunk manga me and Ryan were working on for Wander ( a concept we later ditched). This was why Short Story Collection (our first release) had such unique album art. I tried copying how vinyl covers were on the 78s where record companies used universal album sleeves/covers. I wanted to release all of Wander's albums in this format along with a character driven universe. But after a while Ryan and I became more writers than musicians and we were dying to just release a good album and be a good band. Most of our songs were written in 2010, its only catching up to us now because we have some money to record and release it.
Bernard: Vinyl makes for pretty memorabilia. I prefer digital (.mp3 at 320kbps or .flac)
Ryan: Physicals are pieces of music history, looking back at old music you used to listen to is cool, having a record of your favorite bands is like collecting a pokemon, you want to catch them all.

12. What's the funniest story or moment as a band?

Ryan: Everything is too damn funny.
Bernard: We had to kill a spider in my garage one time.
Christian: We did a small tour down to LA area. the motel room didn't have a lock on the bathroom. You could see basically see the bathroom from the outside hallway, so naturally Bernard and Joe propped it open while I was using it. I took a pic of Bernard on the toilet in a motel room for revenge.
Joe: There was this one time Christian was humping the air on the floor while playing Mourning during practice.

Hailing from a small town in quaint Berkshire, Atlases are one of the freshest faces on the UK metal and hardcore scene. The five childhood friends joined forces at the start of 2013 when previous bands went their separate ways. 2013 has seen Atlases touring up and down the UK whilst squeezing in time to write and record the technically mature and flawless EP “Upbringing”.

With an undoubted passion for playing and performing, Atlases have quickly built a reputation on the live circuit for their heartfelt and captivating, yet, powerful live show. It's clear to see that these guys are enjoying every minute of it and making friends and fans along every step of their journey.

Drawing musical influences from bands such as Of Mice & Men, Architects, The Ghost Inside and Bring Me The Horizon, Atlases have defined their sound with a distinctly British vibe which is clearly visible throughout the 6 tracks of “Upbringing”.

Atlases don't hide away from the influence that Parkway Drive and their lifestyle have had upon them. Going on tour, heavy boozing, partying, skate and wake-boarding, meeting and making as many new friends as possible and all whilst delivering killer live shows every night are what Atlases hold dear.

'The Red Dragon', a kitted-out LDV Convoy, is Atlases pride and joy. Boasting, bunk beds, a TV, a sink, stoves and a huge sound system, as well as black go-faster stripes, a Mercedes Benz badge on the bonnet, a huge exhaust and a massive fog horn, you will definitely see and hear them coming!

Atlases are going to be touring throughout the UK and EU from the new year. Dates to be announced very soon.

Deep Elm Records is part of a threatened breed of "true independents" that exist for the love of music. Most so-called "indie" labels are, in fact, funded and distributed by major record labels and their affiliates. Not Deep Elm. On a completely self-sufficient basis and without any outside support, Deep Elm competes in an industry dominated by corporate giants. They are proud to be 100% independent. With the recruitment of drummer Aaron Krause (Inocula, Midwest Blue, Ellen Loves Everything) and keyboardist Beth Hoffman, Bridges Of Königsberg came into being as a skillful and capable four-piece group. Blending elements of experimental rock, electronica, and a number of obscure genres, We Have Many Faces(EP) was released in June of 2010 and demonstrated the bands diverse sound and emotional range. They released their debut full-length, The Five Colors on December 26th, 2011 and their latest one on April 14th, 2014.

Alex CF (Fall Of Efrafa, Light Bearer) and some friends have a side project called Anopheli, playing emo crust in the vein of Madame Germen and Remains Of The Day.

Anopheli was a little project created between friends living in different countries. Jasmine, Brian and Josh all live in California and Alex lives in London. It started off as a lovely idea of immortalizing a friendship with a musical project. So they challenged theirselves, to see if they could write and record a demo in two weeks.

They managed to write the songs, but ran out of time to record. Alex came back a few months later and after a handful of practices they managed to record this record with their friend Jack Shirley in an afternoon and evening (and then many subsequent weeks of mixing). They were joined by the extremely talented honorary members Nicole, who plays cello, and Richard, who played acoustic guitar. They had such fun creating this record that they decided to continue as a band, and create music as often as they can.

Anopheli is taken from the word Anopheles, the greek scientific term for Mosquito, which means "good for nothing." Their first record is called "A Hunger Rarely Sated."

The Inquisition: 007.Upcdownc (leftcrightcabc+start)

1. How did you came up with the name of the band?

Chris - The band name came around as a joke really. We kept coming up with names, play a show and then find out that there was already a band with that name. Upcdownc seemed unlikely to be already used as it was so stupid.

2. Do you have a standard procedure of creating a song? Do you just jam around or is there a main riff and the track is build up on it?

Chris - Sometimes we jam on an idea or a riff and other times there will be a general song/structure already in place where people will then add their own parts to it. We also do somethings completely off the cuff and spontaneously.

3. What are your influences and what kind of music do you hear when you are at home?

Chris - As a band, our influences are quite broad. We all grew up on the 90's grunge stuff so bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins then later Deftones were early influences and then to the tale end of the 90s stuff like Mogwai, God speed and Warp records stuff. Nowadays, it can be anything from Swans, Goblin, Death Grips to The Carpenters, Johnny Cash or Kiss on the van stereo.
Jim - We have a pretty broad taste in the music we like, as Chris just said from bands like Ufomammut to weird 70's horror soundtracks. I think (hope) these varying tastes come across in our music.

4. What’s the first record you've ever bought ?

Chris - Me, personally it was Jingo by Jellybean. Album wise it was either Americas least wanted by Ugly Kid Joe or Aerosmith - Big ones.
Jim - Mine is nothing to be proud of really! My first records were Shine by Aswad and Crazy by Let Loose. First album was Steam by East 17.
Dale - Orville - I wish I could fly

5. Name a band that you would like to share the stage or tour with ?

Chris - Red Fang would be cool. They seem to have as big a love for beer as we do so it would be a challenge plus they rock hard. Always a must.

6. Did the internet and specially the blogs helped to spread your music around the world? Name a place (country) that you were suprised to know your music has reached to?

Chris - The internet is always a big help and a new way of sharing your music seems to pop up every day. It's always interesting to see that someone in Indonesia or China has ordered our stuff or watched our video, as we have never visited.
Jim - I love looking at the stats on our Youtube videos especially the countries when we get views, we've been getting quite a few in America so hopefully we can go out there and play soon.

7. Do you support the idea of bandcamp where fans can decide the price or services like spotify?

Chris - Yes. We have put a few things up for free or name a price.

8. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Chris - Well, we've been a band now for 14 years so hopefully still playing and releasing stuff. Obviously, as we get older there will be the usual obstacles of starting a family etc but for me, music is an extension of my existence so I can never really see me stopping completely.

9. Is the artwork of an album important nowadays in the digital era?

Chris - 100%. I rarely download, but if I do, then I will always print the cover off. As a band that does it's own artwork, as much thought will go in to the art and cover as will for the music. It's the snap shot you will always think of when you have that album in mind plus it always helps when browsing for records as you always know when something is Death Metal or whatever.
Jim - I'm quite a big downloader, but i must admit i will always buy an album if the artwork is cool before even hearing what the band sound like.

10. What is you favorite album cover?

Chris - Growing up, I always loved the Iron Maiden covers to the point where I had T-shirts with Eddie on before I had even heard the band. To pick one cover is pretty difficult so will go with Nirvana - Incesticide as I have a portion of that on my arm.

Jim - I like it when bands do something special with the artwork so for me Sisterworld by Liars with the concertina CD sleeve.

11. It seems that a lot of people are turning on vinyl again. Why do you think that is and which is your preferable media format?

Chris - I love vinyl. It just sounds so much better and it's great that more and more bands are releasing it in that format. Plus, from an artistic point of view, you have so much more to work with.
Jim - Its quite nice having something big in your hand!

12. What's the funniest story or moment as a band?

Chris -We're all pretty stupid people and as a band, we all share the same sense of humour so we are always messing around. Playing what was essentially a restaurant during someones 60th birthday was pretty funny as we refused to play until they had finished their meal as no one wants a heavy band playing during that.

Upcdownc are currently recording their 6th album, the follow up to Black Sea, at Ranscombe Studios, Rochester! Their new album marks a complete U-turn on their normal sound and is the soundtrack to a new movie “Faster than Evil”. The film itself is in the early stages but is the debut film from Horror director, Dexter Thrasher.

Exit Oz, the only darkjazz act in Eastern Europe, with influences varying from krautrock, Romanian folk, jazz and post-rock, have released a debut album this month.

Besides all three present members of Exit Oz being born and raised in Timișoara, Romania, they all also have the influence of having lived abroad for at least a few years - Alex in Lisbon, Ovidiu in London and Dorothea in Barcelona, thus summarizing a broad array of musical vibrations.

The project first came out of the improvisation sessions made in 2011 by Alexandru Iovan (tenor saxophone and vocals) and Ovidiu Zimcea (samples). In 2013 other musicians joined the project as collaborators and they had their first live shows as a trio, together with Lucian Naste on guitar and drum machine.

In 2014, after Lucian left the project, the trio reformed with Dorothea Iordănescu’s entry in Oz, playing synthesizer. Their proposed style is difficult to pin down in one genre, with influences ranging from soothing ambient to noisy electronics and anguished free jazz.

Cult Of Luna is a Swedish post-metal band from Umeå. They formed from the remnants of a Umeå hardcore punk band called Eclipse in 1998. They slowly garnered critical appreciation and underground popularity with early releases Cult of Luna (2001) and The Beyond (2003); however, it is 2004's Salvation that can be considered their 'breakthrough' release. This was followed by Somewhere Along the Highway in 2006, another largely well-received album.

In August 2006, the band released a remake of "Marching to the Heartbeats" from Somewhere Along the Highway entitled "Heartbeats" solely on the internet community MySpace. The song was available for download for a few days and was later removed. The point was to see if the song would be kept alive by file sharing, and was also apparently a statement against the conservative music industry, said keyboardist Anders Teglund in an interview.

In 2008 the band released its fifth album, Eternal Kingdom. It was released in Europe on June 16, followed by its release in the United States on July 8.

In 2009 they released a DVD including a live performance from 2008, an interview with the band, as well as all of the band's videos.

On October 18, 2009, the band released Eviga riket, a hardback book/audiobook covering the story and themes from Eternal Kingdom. The book and audiobook are bilingual, printed and spoken both in Swedish and English. The audiobook contains new pieces of music and soundscapes written by the band. Eviga riket was released the 23 of February 2010.

On October 8, 2012, the band announced the title of their sixth studio album as Vertikal, as well as the first leg of their upcoming European tour. The release dates were confirmed as November 5, with the European release on January 25, 2013, and the American release four days later on January 29, 2013. A companion EP, Vertikal II was released on September 20, 2013. It includes the three songs with which Cult of Luna intended to conclude Vertikal as well as a remix of "Vicarious Redemption" by Justin Broadrick.

On December 17, 2013, the band announced that they'd be taking a break of sorts for the foreseeable future stating "2013 have been a very active year for us and neither do we want or think it is good to continue in that pace" they also said "Sooner or later we will return in one form or another".

The Inquisition: 006.Rosetta

1. How did you came up with the name of the band?

We just brainstormed at one of our early practices. When it became clear that we were actually going to write some songs and play shows, we figured we needed a name to play under. We wanted something general, that could mean different things to different people, and that wouldn't create specific expectations of what we would sound like. We didn't discuss it very much, just picked a name and went with it.

2. Do you have a standard procedure of creating a song? Do you just jam around or is there a main riff and the track is build up on it?

We used to jam a lot during rehearsals. Most of the early material on TGS and Wake/Lift was written this way. If we improvised something and liked it, we would just play it again and again until a structure emerged. It was a very intuitive process. The problem was that over time, we developed habits -- and that made the songs start to all sound the same. When we began writing for ADOM, we switched over to a more structured songwriting process. We would talk about song ideas before playing them, and decide in advance what a song should sound like and what sort of parts it should have. It became almost a game, a way to challenge ourselves to see if we could do new and interesting things. The Anaesthete had the most structured writing process of anything we've done, where we were actually making flow charts for all the songs. Sometimes we would come up with something that had great parts, but the parts didn't fit well together -- if that happened, we would sometimes end up moving parts from one song to another where they might work better.

3. What are your influences and what kind of music do you hear when you are at home?

I (Matt) can't speak for other members of the band, but I think people might be surprised at how little metal we listen to normally. My personal favorite band ever is Stars of the Lid. Everything I do with electric guitar owes something to those guys; they are pioneers without equal. A Winged Victory for the Sullen also gets a lot of play while I'm working and I really like Thomas Koner and most of the stuff on Kranky Records. In terms of metal, I've been listening to a lot of death metal in recent years, like Decapitated, Wormed, Ulcerate, and Gorguts. And everyone in Rosetta likes 90s hardcore, especially the stuff Hydra Head was putting out around 1997-2000.

4. What's the first record you've ever bought ?

So embarrassing -- probably one of the Punk-O-Rama compilations. Or maybe it was a Nirvana CD? Hard to remember. Possibly Rage Against the Machine, which I still love.

5. Name a band that you would like to share the stage or tour with ?

Usually the bands I can think are way out of reach. Maybe Jakob, or Pallbearer. My favorite bands to tour with are bands that don't sound too much like us and are nice, easygoing people. That's one reason why we've toured so much with City of Ships over the years.

6. Did the internet and specially the blogs helped to spread your music around the world? Name a place (country) that you were surprised to know your music has reached to?

I think the internet is the main reason we ever were able to tour outside the US. We've never had very good distribution overseas, so it was mostly just people hearing us online and telling their friends about it. I was pretty surprised that we had a lot of fans in Russia, for example. I recently did an interview with a zine in Iran! That was a big surprise. And we are going to tour China this summer, which is a great privilege.

7. Do you support the idea of bandcamp, where fans can decide the price or services like spotify?

We much prefer Bandcamp to any other digital platform. It provides fair compensation to the artist in a way that few others do. Spotify seems to be mostly about letting people download legally, but doesn't care about compensating the artists fairly. So listeners can download without feeling guilty, I guess. But it's iTunes and Spotify that are making money from that, not bands themselves.

8.Your latest album, “Anaesthete”, was digitally released as “name your price”. It’s rare a big band like Rosetta to release something and let the fans to decide how much they pay for it. How did you come up with this idea and was the acceptance of the fans as expected?

It was mainly a recognition of the times we live in. The internet has made most of the music industry machinery obsolete. You no longer need all that promotion and distribution to be heard around the world. So it makes sense to cut costs and simplify the process so that the band can give music directly to listeners. It allows the band to be financially sustainable, and the fans to get the music more easily and for cheaper. We were very happy with the response to the digital release -- it has done better than any previous release and thousands of new people have heard our music for the first time. Very exciting. We are still thinking about the pricing model and whether we might want to change that in the future, but from here on we will be self-releasing as much of our music as possible.

9. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Probably touring less, but still making music. I think we might end up playing fewer shows but releasing a lot more new music. In the past we've put out a full-length every 3 years or so. I think in the future it might be every two years or even a major release every year. Because the self-released digital versions break even, then we don't have to save money or tour for long periods to afford recording time.

10. Is the artwork of an album important nowadays in the digital era?

It's probably less important that it used to be. Or maybe its importance has changed. Before digital distribution, the artwork was meant to tell you something about how an album sounded, by using recognizable visual cues. There's no need for that anymore, since people can hear the album before they buy it. So it creates more freedom for the artwork to be weird, or experimental, or challenging in some way.

11. What is your favorite album cover?

My favorite album cover of ours is Wake/Lift. The tower imagery has a lot of personal meaning for me.

12. It seems that a lot of people are turning on vinyl again. Why do you think that is and which is your preferable media format?

Most of the music I listen to is lossless digital (while I'm doing other things), but I do buy LPs occasionally for my collection. I think the larger format of the artwork is worth paying extra money for, and I do enjoy the way that vinyl demands more complete attention than digital music. Vinyl functions as a collector's product that you buy when you really love something. It's great to have that available.

13. What's the funniest story or moment as a band?

There are so many. It's hard to say. There was one time that we stayed with my mother-in-law on tour, and BJ managed to break a tile shelf in the bathroom and cut himself pretty badly. Armine ruined all of my mother-in-law's towels trying to get the bleeding to stop. I got in a lot of trouble, haha.

14. Do you have a new release or tour planned?

We have an EP coming out this year on Translation Loss records. It will probably be our last traditional release with a label. The material was recorded over a year ago but just hasn't been released yet. We'll be touring China this summer. And we're working on writing some new material with Eric from City of Ships, which should be interesting.
