Album: Bird From The Abyss - III

Band: Bird From The Abyss
Album: III
Label: Self Released
Year: 2010

01. Neck-Deep In Swampy Mud
02. Powers Hidden
03. Interlude From Abandoned Well

Bird From The Abyss comes from Finland, a land where nighttime dominates the day side and where inside deep, dark forests still dwell the ancient creatures of the mythological north. But the music of Bird From The Abyss is more exotic, more Mediterranean - it’s aura is one culled from the ancient Egyptian ethos, it’s ritualistic nature is foreboding and sinister. When one hears the music of Bird From The Abyss. they will uncover many styles from doom to ambient to folk to progressive- all synthesized and textured in a way which births a new and completely original dark sound.

* Thanx to the band for sharing this with us.

Album: Gifts From Enola - Gifts From Enola

Band: Gifts From Enola
Album: Gifts From Enola
Label: The Mylene Sheath
Year: 2010

01. Lionized
02. Dime And Suture
03. Alagoas
04. Grime And Glass
05. Rearview

Gifts From Enola have created an album that finally and perfectly captures the intensity of their live show and expands upon all of their past ideas ten-fold. Or maybe they've simply taken past ideas to their logical extremes, destroyed them, and birthed brand new ideas from their ashes. Either way, the band continues to evolve at an astonishing rate and further pushes their sonic spectrum into an unclassifiable area that is all at once hard to explain, but impossibly easy to listen to. And we don't mean that in the "easy-listening" genre of music sense either. If anything, the band has become more technical and heavier than even the heaviest parts of "From Fathoms" (their critically acclaimed 2009 release), not in a "breakdown-and-beat-you-over-the-head" sort of way, but more in the album's overall sound.

With more attention to dynamics than ever before, and a recording that truly demonstrates a band approaching a creative zenith, the new Gifts From Enola album is a lock to defy expectations and raise the creative bar yet again. Easily staying ahead of the pack by pushing themselves to color outside any preset guidelines laid down before them, the band has never intentionally shunned convention - but simply write music with their collective heart on their sleeve.

The album was mixed and mastered by Moving Mountains guitarist/vocalist Gregory Dunn with artwork handled by Three Bears Design (mewithoutYou, Caspian, Reliant K). This marks the bands third full length release, following up "Loyal Eyes Betrayed The Mind" (2006, The Mylene Sheath) and "From Fathoms" (2009, The Mylene Sheath), as well as a split CD with Seattle, WA's You.May.Die.In.The.Desert (2008, Differential). Gifts From Enola is a band through flirting with their potential, as this album proves, this is band that has fearlessly reached the next level. - The Mylene Sheath

Deadhorse is a post-rock band from Erie, PA. Starting in the fall of 2009, the original intent of Deadhorse was to be a transition from Brian Morgante’s solo music into full band. After doing a few shows with the full band material, the band started writing new material as a four piece: Brian Morgante on guitar, Rachel Shesman on piano, Josh Travis on bass, and Craig Sucharski on drums. Through the refining process, the band took steps in a new direction and decided to switch things up entirely, going with a full instrumental sound. Josh Travis disbanded from the group, and Tyler Long, who also played with Brian in Awaken, North Wind! joined and started writing the new material. Many second guitar players have cycled through since the beginning of Deadhorse, including Tyler James from Radio Empire, Nick Bufalino from Precinct Aflame, Dan Van Matre from Aevory Nash, and Ryan Zimmerman. Jess Scutella from Radio Empire has also played shows as auxillary percussion with Deadhorse.

The band has released a full length record with friends in Erie, PA. They have been recording with Mark Graziano and Eric Buman, who also engineered the Awaken, North Wind! album.

Monolith hails from South Philadelphia. Monolith will lull you with its complex and dark instrumentation and then hammer you when you are weak and vulnerable. Epic, expansive sludge metal with post-rock dynamics, reminiscent of bands like Neurosis, Isis, Mouth of the Architect and Mogwai.

Boston/NYC- based ambient doom/sludge metal band. Arranged with past and current members of bands including Waking Judea, In Remembrance, and Crusher. The band combines a wide variety of influences, creating a style of post-metal that fuses the melancholy and melody of bands like Cult of Luna and Katatonia with massive, crushing riffs and a sense of urgency hinting at their roots in hardcore and sludge (ala Crowbar, Will Haven, Coalesce, etc).

“Hemeltraan” is the sophomore album by Belgium’s Kingdom, featuring members of Amenra, The Black Heart Rebellion and Blind To Faith, who welcome us into their world of darkness. This new album sees the band further exploring the outskirts of desperate metal, resulting in a slow, mature work of bleak drones, epic doom and fuzzy sludge built on sustained chords and eerie chanting, hypnotizing its prey and conveying a brooding feeling of unease.

Album: Kollwitz - Like Iron I Rust

Band: Kollwitz
Album: Like Iron I Rust
Label: Fysisk Format
Year: 2010

01. What You Are Given
02. Green Line
03. A Great Divide
04. And The Stars Did Wander
05. Dispirit
06. Black Star, Grey Sky
07. Stille Før Stormen
08. Like Iron I Rust

Kollwitz was started in the summer of 2006 in Bodø, Norway by members of Beyond The Fences, Oceanism, Uzumaki, Hjertesorg and The Spectacle. In 2007 they relocated to Oslo.

The music itself is based on long and careful progressions, a vast dynamic range and the contrast between beautiful melodies and brutal noise. Many might think of Kollwitz as a metal band, although they feel as much at home in hardcore punk, post-rock and other experimental genres; a soundscape where they try to find common cause between sources of inspiration that seemingly have none.
