Formed in late 2010, Cassiopeia has aimed to forge a new sound in the shoegaze and space rock genres. Working out of Phoenix, Arizona, Cassiopeia has taken the DIY attitude and applied it to all aspects of their work. Within one month of forming, their debut demo EP was written, produced, engineered, and mixed by the band themselves and 50 hand made copies, also by the band, were released during their first show at local Phoenix record store and downtown hot spot, Revolver Records. While continuing to play shows all around the Phoenix area in the last 4 months, the buzz is beginning to grow and a small, southwest tour is set to take place in early June 2011. Taking various influences from all four members, the album was well received among local and international listeners. After posting songs online, their fan base grew to as far away as Japan and France and is steadily growing.

After raising funds throught their Kickstarter page, they entered their local studio Pyramix around mid to late June and record the whole thing live for 2 days straight. They released their debut album on 6th December and  the whole thing was once again DIY, but it was a lot more polished looking and sounding than the first release. While the initial plan wass to have physical copies as well as digital copies on itunes, amazon, rhapsody, etc... Cassiopeia hope to have copies pressed on a limited amount of vinyl.

*Thanx to Cassiopeia for letting me upload their album. Support the band!

Inspired by the likes of Apparat, M83 and Sigur Rós, this 9-track album offers a fusion of styles reflecting the previous musical releases of its three members: the glitchy and powerful beats of micro, the wrapping, rhythmic patterns of edPorth, and the melancholy crescendos of French Teen Idol, resulting in extremely addictive, soothing melodies.

A limited CD edition, featuring the 9 original tracks as well as 2 remixes, will be released in 2012 by 51beats.

In 2010 they got a new drummer and started arranging and finalising work for their first album, 'Brighter' which was released in December 2011.

Spook The Horses' debut album, 'Brighter'. 60 minutes of atmospheric soundscapes and crushing heaviness. The band layers three guitars, synthesizer and samples with bass and drums to create monumental songs that are at once saturated and spacious. Desperate vocals sparsely punctuate the mostly-instrumental tracks.

They shaped their material during 2009, bearing influences from Tool, Envy, Pelican, Isis and some other bands, but never imitating someone’s manner or sound. Neither post-rock nor post-metal, Nice Wings, Icarus! exist somewhere in between, adding some quirky math-rock overtones and a classy violin-driven progressive rock signature to their sound.

A Hope For Home (commonly abbreviated to AHFH) is a band based in Portland, Oregon that formed in 2006. They have 3 studio albums, two of which were released on Facedown Records and Strike First (the imprint label of Facedown Records). Throughout their career, A Hope For Home has controlled many of the aspects of their music including the recording, production, mixing, art direction, and art design. These commitments have allowed them to achieve the precise sound and imagery of their intentions, and have become part of the band’s dynamic.

Founded in 2006 by friends Kyle Cooke and Matthew Ellis, A Hope For Home has come a long way from their local showcase beginnings. After a long struggle with cancer, founding member Kyle Cooke died of cancer on August 5, 2006. A Hope For Home has since continued with new members, while still bearing the name created by Kyle Cooke as a sort of remembrance to their formation. After their first release Here, The End in 2007, A Hope For Home gained both praise and a loyal fan base.

After signing with Strike First records in 2008, they re-released their sophomore effort “The Everlasting Man” and a very busy tour schedule followed in the year to come. However, their following album, and Facedown Records debut “Realis”, proved to be a turning point for the band stylistically. Abandoning certain cliches and striving toward a more experimental and ambient sound, they quickly found themselves without a stylistic home in the current scene. They began to experiment even further by 2011 with the release of their fourth album, In Abstraction, on Facedown Records.

Wess Meets West began in late 2005 and was created by Sam Stauff (The Morning After, My Holy Ghost, A Paper Tugboat). Initially, it was intended solely as an electronic music project supplemented by Sam on guitar. The project stayed this way until February 2008 when Sam recruited bass player Bryan Gottshall and drummer Jesse Vengrove, turning Wess Meets West into a live band. The band fused it's electronic roots with it's newly found live elements, bringing the music to a whole new level and finally allowing the music to be performed in a live setting.

Wess Meets West's first Album, "You Women..." is a small collection of songs and experiments, mostly consisting of guitar driven atmospheric jams with electronic undertones. This EP was produced when it was still Sam's solo project. However, with the addition of Jesse and Bryan, Wess Meets West wrote new material that showcased their new sound. "How To Kill A Mammoth" is the result of taking Wess Meets West to a full band and live setting, yet still incorporating electronic sounds. "How To Kill A Mammoth" was recorded by Port City Recording--operated by Sam and Bryan--at Mercy College in White Plains, New York.

2009 found Wess Meets West as a solo project again, still will the help of friends when needed. "A Collection Of Explosions And Death Threats" is the third release from Wess Meets West.  A darker electronic EP consisting of B-sides.

"The Sun The Moon The Master" featuring Steve "Woody" LaCerra on drums and Bryan Gottshall on bass, was released late 2009.

In January 2010 Brian DiCrescenzo (Drums) and Erick Alfisi (Bass) joined the band enabling the band to play more shows and tour.  In 2010 alone, Wess Meets West played more shows than all the pervious years combined, sharing the stage with: This Will Destroy You, Trophy Scars, ...And You Will Know Us by The Trail of Dead, The Dear Hunter, Henry Gale, Via Audio, Pattern Is Movement, Irepress, Constants, Gavin Castleton, Kilimanjaro, Fugue and The Files and Fires.

"Chevaliers" is their latest album, recorded beteween January 2010 - August 2011 and released on 29th November 2011.

Album: Across Waters - More Light Is Never Ending

Band: Across Waters
Album: More Light Is Never Ending
Label: Self Released
Year: 2011

01. More Light Is Never Ending
02. The Spoken Earth
03. From Dust And Flesh
04. The Fall Of Man
05. 40 Days Of Rain
06. All Creation Groans

Across Waters is history in the making. When four not-so-average guys from a small town known as Denton, TX band together to create an amalgamation of progressively styled music, nothing magical or profound happens instantaneously; this takes practice and the work of a Greater Power, if you know what I mean. Indeed it takes four insane, Jesus-loving men: Sterling Archer (guitar), Tyler Burditt (guitar), Leighton Pustejovsky (drums), and Levi Shultz (bass).

It all started with two guys and a dorm room during the fall of 2008. Leighton Pustejovsky and Tyler Burditt began a rampage of jam sessions only to find that their love for music would not cease. A year later after being approached by the rambunctious duo, Sterling Archer made his way into the ongoing embryonic stages of Across Waters. Finally, Levi Schultz, once a fill-in for shows, became the last addition, thereby completing the awkward quartet of talented musicians.

To say that these men had to overcome several adversities is certainly an understatement. One such case is the first time they ever performed, a day that will be remembered in infamy. “We stumbled through our set as Leighton couldn’t hear anything, me and Tyler were out of tune, and our fill-in bassist had forgotten 75% of his parts… When we stopped it had turned out that most people had ventured inside for snacks and silence. We felt like great shepherds. Interesting enough, our name was My Great Shepherd”, says Archer. Several venue and house shows later, the instrumental post-rock outfit has blossomed into maturing spiritual leaders of a broken generation. They are story tellers and music is their medium.

“Originally our intent was to just play together for fun and for the camaraderie that comes through playing in a band, but over time through observation of the culture we found ourselves in, our own convictions/intent shifted from personal enjoyment to a sense of calling. Our purpose now is to declare the story of God’s redeeming work in places and to people who would otherwise never hear or be engaged with this narrative; to tell and reflect the beauty of our Creator and the wonder of His creation”, declares Archer.

After three years of engaging the community in the artistically confused city of Denton, Across Waters has finally decided to release their first full-length album entitled More Light is Never Ending, all-encompassing of melodic guitar riffs, intricate drum beats, steady bass lines, and impacting spoken word. The upcoming album focuses on “the story of God’s great narrative… in the creation story,” says Archer. In a sense, the album is a multi-translatable version of what occurs on stage, which any show-goer will find to be a unique, challenging and spiritual encounter. “Our album is just a capturing of what we do on stage. Declare and reflect,” claims Archer. Along with sharing a metaphoric story through music, Across Waters uses spoken word to convey a more specific message, reinforcing what is already happening in the music. Archer describes, “Much like a song does in inspiring the mind to wander and get caught up in something much more abstract, we use spoken word to direct where those thoughts are going in setting the stage for what is about to take place in the song itself.”

With a melodramatic flare and an impeccable ability to perform the narrative of the Gospel, Across Waters continually cultivates a spirit of love towards all they come across. With the release of their debut album, the wacky men of Across Waters seek to relish in the gospel, sharing it with larger audiences and opening doors to minister to the lost. After all, they have always wanted to be great shepherds.

Sleepstream are a post-rock band originating from Thessaloniki, Greece. They were formed by Steven (guitars and synths) and Nio (drums, percussion) during winter 2008, with Gus V. on the bass, as an experimental-progressive trio. By summer 2009 Nio and Gus left the band for occupational reasons, leaving Steven experimenting with different musicians, leading to a more polyphonic-atmospheric result. Nio’s return six months later closed any remaining gaps and the band’s music gradually got to today’s form. By December 2010 the band came to an agreement with Fluttery Records for releasing their debut album, and the “incomings” of Stratos on the violins, John on the bass and Kostas (ex-Intensity band) on the guitars finalized the core form of today’s band.

The debut album, called A Waltz With The Seventh Crane, is one of the best albums released in 2011, along with Barrows and Obscure Sphinx. From it's epic compositions and melodies, to the great production, is a solid release and has nothing to be jealous of released from well establish post bands.  From the very first note, 'till the end, it manages to fill the listener with emotions and carry him away.

Sleepstream have supported Tides From Nebula and Midas Fall, and will share the stage along with Long Distance Calling as co-headliners in Thessaloniki,

EP: Heirs - Hunter

Band: Heirs
Album: Hunter EP
Label: Denovali Records
Year: 2011

01. Hunter
02. Symptom
03. Never Land (Sisters Of Mercy Cover)

Hailed as one of the best post-metal albums of 2009, Heirs' debut, Alchera, established the band amongst Australia’s foremost instrumental acts. Released by German label Denovali Records, the album contained distant echoes of industrial metal deviants Godflesh, the misanthropic catharsis of early Swans and the gloomy noise rock of Slint, but these influences are something they have been steadily outgrowing. The album’s accompanying tour saw the band play 69 shows across Europe, UK and Japan, cementing their reputation for delivering an engulfing and all-consuming live experience. On stage, the band maintained a relentless, ear-splitting offensive, defying audience expectations by refusing to offer an immediate sense of resolution.

2010 saw the release of Heirs' second album, Fowl, displaying a shift towards a broader sonic palette, taking further influence from industrial, darkwave and gothic rock. Incorporating a pugilistic rhythmic foundation with coarse, threatening guitar textures and a stronger electronic presence, Fowl marked a great leap forward for Heirs, taking them beyond genres into a realm that is almost hermetic in its vision. The album also featured the bands first collaborations with multi instrumentalist and world renowned Theremin maestro, Miles Brown. Receiving much praise from critics and fans alike, Heirs returned to Europe to promote the album, performing Denovali Swingfest in Germany, Bracara Extreme Festival in Portugal, as well as headline shows across France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Germany. An Australian tour with post-rock heavyweights Laura followed in March 2011, which saw the band courting a confronting visual presence to compliment the weight of their sound.

In September 2011, Heirs released the first single from their forthcoming third album in the form of a 10″/CD titled “Hunter”, again on Denovali Records. The material sees Heirs strengthening their melodic resolve, and while equally intense, inhabits a less oppressive atmosphere, with the band citing Cocteau Twins & Sisters of Mercy as being influential to their process. It also sees the band taking their visual explorations to new heights, with artwork and video production taking even greater significance, where light, colour and sound are distorted in to a monochrome, hyper-real coition.

12. Let's Pretend You Don't Exist (Barbara's Straight Son Remix)
13. Fade Away (Lowtronik Remix)
14. Dispute (Urbanoise Remix)

Three Way Plane is a three piece (?) band from Athens, Greece which was formed at the end of 2003. They try to be open-minded and create music spontaneously through jamming and improvisation. Therefore they combine their ideas and write music for their songs.
Stratos and Dio write lyrics talking about anything that distracts their minds.
Music is something like a drug for them and they don't give a fuck in being categorized but you could say they are playing something between indie noizy rock and post-hardcore.
In 2006 they released our EP "Bright Days" in DIY terms and the song "My Best Friend" was also included in the second Spinalonga Records compilation: "In The Junkyard Vol 2".
Debut LP entitled: "give us somethiing new to shout" was released in May 2010 from Spinalonga Records.
Since April 2011 they have a second drummer! Don't ask why..long story.
Just think something inbetween of At The Drive-in meets Shellac meets Jesus Lizards meets Fugazi meets Clash.

Album: Meniscus - War Of Currents

Band: Meniscus
Album: War Of Currents
Label: Unsigned
Year: 2011

01. Room 3327
02. 130
03. Immersion
04. Fight Club
05. Cursed
06. Infant

Meniscus's lush ambient soundscapes, driving bass lines and poly-rhythmic beats create a unique musical experience that has been hypnotising Australian audiences since 2005. The Sydney trio's unique brand of instrumental post rock blends the moody dynamics of acts like Mogwai and Sigur Rós with the prog rock technicality of King Crimson.

The critical success of the band's 2007 EP The Absence of I elevated Meniscus's profile globally with rave reviews from The Silent Ballet (“Beautifully crafted and impeccably conceived....very good doesn't quite sum this up, it's amazing”) and Sputnik Music (“Meniscus have a wizardly sense of dynamics, songs flowing with the purity of water....technically brilliant and tightly composed”).

Despite this success, the departure of drummer and co-founder Duncan Wilson forced Meniscus into hiatus in 2008. In early 2009, founding members Daniel Oreskovic (guitar) and Alison Kerjean (bass) made a comeback to the live circuit with new drummer Cameron Brennan, showcasing new songs and arrangements.

In late 2009, friend of the band, Marty Wong joined the band to mix visuals during live performance. Marty’s tasteful use of different visual themes for the bands live shows provided an extra texture and added to the cinematic style of the music. 2009 was rounded off with the band playing at their first music festival – The high and dry festival which was definitely a highlight of the year for the band.

In 2010, the band spent a great deal of time working on new material and recording demo versions of the tracks that would later be recorded professionally by Ash Maklad at Eargasm studios and mastered by Paul Stefanidis at Viking Lounge mastering.

2011 looks to be a very exciting year for Meniscus, with the release of their first studio album entitled “war of currents”. The new album was officially released on July 15th and Meniscus will be taking their new music to several cities around Australia soon after.

Album: Battlefields - Agassiz

Band: Battlefields
Album: Agassiz
Label: .init records
Year: 2011

01. Entangled Mess
02. An Entire Epoch
03. Forced Abandonment
04  Laurentide
05. Manitoba Winds
06. Structured Delusion

After the release of their 2009 full-length, "Thresholds Of Imbalance", Battlefields lost founding guitarist Andrew Wallin, and went on a brief hiatus from playing shows. "Agassiz" is the band's return to the trenches with two new members and a more sonically assaulting blackened blend of metal and hardcore. Agassiz blasts through six songs in under a half-hour, presenting a concept EP of the glacial lake Agassiz, whose dried up geographic location is where the band's base of operations lies. Fans of the band's previous work my be taken aback by the sheer force of this new material, with pummeling blast beats, but there is still the familiar sound throughout the EP that Battlefields has perfected since it's conception in 2006. Agassiz lyrical content deals with when Lake Agassiz's ice dams broke and rose sea levels, destroying the old world, and setting up the new world for corrupt religious control. Featuring artwork and layout by Seldon Hunt.

With a computer at his fingertips and a mind full of ideas, Pierre-André Pernin started Näo in 2002 as a one-man project, joined later by the drummer Thibault Fellmann, the guitarist Jordan Daverio and the video designer Matthieu Tercieux. So in it’s current form Näo comprises 4 members.

The band's musical influences range from Amon Tobin and Nine Inch Nails to Krush or 65daysofstatic - over the years Näo have gone beyond these influences to amaze audiences at already a hundred concerts and festival appearances in France and Germany with their unique, previously unheard sound. At the studio as well as on stage, Näo develop and shape melancholic and aerial music, exploring moods from contained rage to lyrical digital outbursts. Like a surgeon, Pierre-André meticulously crafts mesmerizing melodies and down-tempo beats.

His penchant for synthetic layers and for skillfully chiseled keyboard compositions gives his' music a unique and strange atmosphere, progressively immersing the listener into Näo's world. To this already enriched enchantment Thibaud and Jordan add their rhythmic impulses and abrupt riffs, creating a mixed beast of electro-noise, melded with brute, highly energetic guitars and spliced with elements of post-rock, metal and IDM into something very unique and powerful.

With Näo the album, Näo the band presents a mesmerizing combination of playful electronica and anthemic, impulsive rock elements. Join in, and be warned - their electronic odyssey has only just begun...

08. The Past Is My Shadow

In 2008, Tympanik Audio introduced the listeners to Integral, an esoteric duo from Germany, and their debut album ‘Rise’. With a very personal approach to a wide range of multi-layered and hauntingly beautiful compositions, ‘Rise’ proved to be a gem in the Tympanik catalog and a highly appreciated aural experience for its listeners.

As we all waited patiently for a new album, Integral began sifting through their minds and hard drives seeking the origins of their creativity. The results of that search took on the title of ‘The Past Is My Shadow’, eighteen unreleased and newly mastered songs that expertly construct the foundation for what would eventually become the Integral we know and admire today.

From their earliest beginnings, David and Rafael seemed to have a firm grasp on the tone and direction they wanted for Integral. Songs originating from as early as 2002 up until post-‘Rise’ 2006 manage to sound as bright and purposeful as if they were just recently produced. Each selection on ‘The Past Is My Shadow’ reveals a rich collage of sounds and ideas, with a level of depth and intricacy that is uncommon these days. Beat-driven and rhythmic, but never overpowering, with vast swirling ambiance, layer upon layer of dense atmospheres, poignant melodies, and a smooth complexity that allows the listener to uncover new levels of aura with each ensuing listen.

In David and Rafael’s own words, “For us, this is the real debut album… a release of the past and an opening for the future. We invite you to take a journey with this album and find your own place somewhere in this universe of sound.”

EP: Iroha - End Of An Era

Band: Iroha
Album: End Of An Era EP
Label: Denovali Records
Year: 2011

01. End Of An Era
02. Where Summer Thrives
03. Fallen Angel
04. Runaway

After a collaboration record with Fragment. from France and the self titled debut full length, 'the End Of An Era' constitutes the third release of Iroha – the new project consisting of Andy Swan (Final), Diarmuid Dalton (Godflesh, jesu) and Dominic Crane (The Boaty Man, Rumble Fish).

The 4 tracks (with a total playing time of 25 minutes) express their love to shoegaze just as much as their interest in the sound of new wave acts like New Order – all this mixed with a metal orientated sound basis and little ambient influences. Iroha have a great feeling for melodies and know how to combine them with powerful sound elements to create a fuzzy warm mood in every new track.

EP: Our Ceasing Voice & Satory Split

Band: Our Ceasing Voice & Satory
Album: 7'' Split
Label: Truelove Entertainment/Revolvermann Records
Year: 2011

01. Our Ceasing Voice - For Darkness Fears The Light
02. Satory - The Translator

For Darkness Fears The Light poses the deeply moving return of Our Ceasing Voice after the success of their debut album 'When the Headline Hit Home'. Striking vocals and powerful drumming enable the band to dare the leap and take their ambient based tunes a step further, while retaining the outfits's full melodramatic force.

Originated in a time of change, Satory's track, The Translator, defines an important turning point in the story of the beast that was introduced in their 2009 EP. Expressive heaviness and valleys of hope constitute their new sound, bringing the powerful machinery back to the post-metal front.
