J.Allen is a grunge/alternative three-piece band from Athens,Greece. The band started playing together for fun and leisure, but it wasn’t until early 2004 when they began performing their own songs live.

With influences ranging from Seattle’s Grunge scene to more progressive elements,J.Allen have branched out to play many venues mainly in Athens and all over Greece. J.Allen recorded their first full-length album, "The Chair Of Sigmund Freud", in 2006.Later that year, its four track promo received positive reviews from the local press and fans.

''Xanax'' appeared on'' INDIE sampler v.5'' of Skratch Magazine (California,USA- 5000 free copies distributed to record labels,A&R reps and PR companies) and on ''Europavox Complilation 2007''(which presents one european artist from each country of Europe)

In June 2009, their debut album was released as a free download.
Please feel more than free to contact the band if you have any additional questions concerning J.Allen and their music.

Junius are:
Joseph E. Martinez guitar, vocals
Mike Repasch-Nieves guitar
Dana Filloon drums
Joel Munguia Reynolds bass

Characterized by spacey walls of guitar, driving rhythms and haunting vocal hooks, Junius blurs the line between dark New Wave and brooding cinematic art rock to form a genre-defining Post-Wave aesthetic.

Press clippings:
"Genius as far as contemporary new wave/cinematic art-rock goes... [an] epic audio masterpiece..."
- The Big Takeover

“Breathtaking atmospherics and dark sensibilities deserved of being likened to the Cure’s Disintegration punctuate this EP. Vocalist Joseph E. Martinez deadpans a brooding style that clashes at the perfect angle with the swirling sounds that rise around his words. Without straying into anything too heavy, Junius manages to maintain an intense presence that is as stylish as Interpol but carries a sincerity and distinction not found in enough young acts. This band seems to have borrowed just enough from previous decades to build and shape something all its own. This Boston-based quartet approach new wave tendencies with a shield of spacey guitars and artistic vocal stylings to create something that is not soon forgotten. With high energy emanating out of a pensive sound, Junius puncture each track with unshakable singularity until it turns into something addictive and encompassing.”
- Exclaim! Magazine

“They wear their brooding eighties swirling darkness on their sleeve, yet still manage to conjure something fresh, majestic and uplifting. The vocal drips onto a textured canvas of chiming echoed guitars and a throbbing backbeat reminiscent of Pornography-era Cure, with the bombastic crunch of My Bloody Valentine.” - The Noise

"Take the darkness of The Cure's best and mix it with the heaviness of A Perfect Circle and moodiness of Placebo... This fell into my lap at the right time."
- Razorcake

"A dark and brooding new wave vibe... with an airy, atmospheric feel to it, reminiscent of spacey, metal-tinged acts like Hum and Cave In... sounding at times like one of Devo's more aggressive offspring. An intriguing blend of influences both new and old."

Band: J.Allen

I know this blog, is mostly about post-rock and instrumental music, but I got this promo CD from a greek band called J.Allen, and I thought I had to do a review about it.

J.Allen is a post-grunge/progressive band with beautiful riffs and successions in melodies in their tracks. Their sound is colorfull and powerfull as they mix heavyness with melody. They are coming form Leivadia, Greece and nowadays all 3 members are living in Athens due to their studies.

The band consists from:
*Anestis Dumas : bass, backing vocals
*Akis Papavasileiou : guitar, vocals
*Marios Skaltsas : drums

After a long time of boredom they finally recorded a 10 track album. They recorded the vocals in Echotron Studio (Athens) and all other instruments in their home . The production is really awesome, if you think about the circumstances.

The band has perfomed live in Athens and Thessaloniki (e.g.Rodeo, Athens - Mylos, Thessaloniki) many times and they have builted quite a popular name amongst greek bands.

Their influences are: Tool, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Isis, R.A.T.M., Nirvana, Muse and other.

*J.Allen - tHE cHAIR oF sIGMUND fREUD (promo)

1.Xanax
A nice old-school grunge intro, which builts into a monster, until the outro which is a drifty melody (one of my favorite part) and leaves the audience with a nice feedback. The vocals are powerful enough and crashes you down from time to time.

2.We Can Act
A nice builted song which has a heavy sound, but at the same time creates emotions and easy sounds.

3.Infatuation
A nice quite song, with heavy chorus. The lyrics describe the weakness of a man into infatuation.

4.Marry Me
An ironic track about romanticism with fast riffs, for those who have acquired everything from their lifes.

(Songs writen by: A.Dumas & A.Papavasileiou Produced by: J.Allen)

Hearing this demo, we believe that this band have many possibilities.
Bands like J.Allen could have more opportunities outside Greece, but we hope that some greek label would sign them and prove us wrong.
