Island Songs: Week 1

"Welcome to Island Songs.
Over the next 7 weeks, I will be travelling to 7 different locations in Iceland - one per week - to record a series of new compositions.

In each location I will be collaborating with local artists to create and perform a new song and each week I will release the audio track and video performance, shot by director Baldvin Z. Each artist has their own unique story to tell and way of contributing, making this a diverse and evolving project.

Island Songs is a living musical film and therefore everything will be documented in real-time. You can join me by keeping an eye on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat (search for Kiasmosed), Instagram and islandsongs.is for regular media and commentary.

I'd love to get as much feedback as possible from people via social media as the project progresses, and really keep a conversation going. During Living Room Songs people sent me in artwork, song titles, suggestions... it was as if I were having a conversation as I was making the music." - Ólafur Arnalds

BLAK and Eloi Casellas (a band member of BLAK) partnered to write the soundtrack for the motion picture "Vostok". BLAK's track with the self titled name is an amazing instrumental post-rock composition, influenced by the early Mono tracks. Eloi Casellas completes this beautiful soundtrack contributing 3, more ambient oriented, instrumental tracks. The only downside is that the EP has a running time of approximately 18 minutes. Well there is always the repeat button...

Inspired by Hammock, Ludovico Einaudi and HeklAa he composed six melancholic and sad songs with beautiful textures and slow beats. We Deserve This new album “Fusion” is an ambient/post-classical journey with wonderful harmonies and warm melodies. This album is kind of overwhelming with all the string arrangements and melodies. You can't even say that this is a post-rock record. The "rock" element with real drums and massive guitar walls is no longer important.

We Deserve This has reached a new level in songwriting and you won't regret a single second listening to it. This record is a very melancholic piece of music. "Fusion" is the perfect album for our modern, hectic style of living. Don't hurry - just close your eyes and dive into the sound. It's more ambient than rock and it makes you forget your bad day. Try it, you won't regret it.

"Cannons is composed of two gentlemen. One living in Toronto, Canada. The other in Seattle, WA. We collaborate digitally via the depths of the internet including email, dropbox, text, etc....

Our days will always look different. Some days, we are focusing on writing a soundtrack for a movie score. Some days, we are working on adding music to videos sent to us by fans. Even other days, we are simply out enjoying a nice glass of Scotch while we enjoy the few nights we have on this beautiful planet.

We have chosen to keep our identities anonymous so that it always stays about the music. Never about us.

Cannons is about something much larger than two high-class gentlemen creating music. it's about a community of people stumbling through life, finding beauty where it has been provided to us by the kindhearted god(s). We don't create beauty. We hunt for it. Then we capture it and exploit it.

We want you to be involved in this. You make us better. We are stronger when you contribute (more of that on the "sights" page of this site.)

We love music. Always have. We need you. Without you, we shrivel and perish.

We are Cannons. Let's walk together."
