Aiua is a 5-piece post-rock group formed on the outskirts of New Orleans in 2008. Since then, they have kept a steady performance regiment around the Southern U.S.; implementing a wall of sound backed by entrancing visuals on the floor of their play space. Ambience, metal, glitch, neo-classical, solid rock; Aiua manages to incorporate all of it.
Aiua’s debut self-titled album takes no small steps in establishing who they are. Starting off with what seems to be the general post-rock format, the album takes a steady turn towards new ground. A sweeping ensemble accompanied by bells and mountainous reverb soon becomes a hurricane of distortion that grips emotions throughout. Glitched, panning loops enveloped by backward-tracked percussion return to entrancing bowed guitars and uplifting rhythm. The album comes to a turning point as a Volta-esque piece is intensified by the cries of a beam theremin, only to be topped by rapid guitars and violent drums ending in a sudden stop. The debut culminates in an outcry of excited buildup and emotion, leaving the listener with a feeling only elicited by instrumental music of this caliber.
Aiua self-produced their self-titled over the course of 2009 and 2010, and they proudly present it to all willing to listen. They have played with the likes of Caspian, Moving Mountains, Native, and Chiaroscuro; and that was all in one release show. With a bold beginning and a promising future, Aiua moves forward towards securing their place as a new progressive band in their genre.

Sleepmakeswaves are an instrumental rock band from Sydney, Australia. Drawing influences mainly from but not limited to post-rock, the young quartet mix driving metallic bombast with textured electronics to create a sonic space where delicate melodies and thunderous climaxes peacefully co-exist.
Since their formation in late 2006, sleepmakeswaves have rapidly established themselves as a promising and unique voice in their field. Within the space of a year the band has enjoyed considerable word-of-mouth support and have landed auspicious opening slots with post-rock luminaries such as Pelican, Laura and Meniscus on the back of their powerful live show and acclaimed demo recording.

Dyskinesia is an Italian band focused on music experimentation. Since the beginning (late 2006) the band (2 guitars, drums) began to perform with a simple approach, focusing on sound and improvisation. The musical outcome was a very raw mixture of stoner/psychedelic genres (see “Live in Pripyat” – Varjot Prod. – 2007). In early 2008 the band grows (5 people), taking a more stretched out approach, exploiting the presence of vocals (very weird vocals made with delay and other machines) and bass guitar (also a very deep noise monster). Through the years, the band style embraced a noise/drone approach, with never-ending repetitions and oppressive atmosphere. The first full length (self titled “Dyskinesia” – Frohike – Creative Field Rec. – Cold Current Prod. – 2008) is a proof of this shifting.
2010 has been a very prolific period. The guys recorded a couple of split albums, with other great Italian drone/ambient projects like “Corpoparassita” and “Gioventù Suicida Studentesca”, and prepared their second full length "Dalla Nascita". These last three recordings, have been made with the collaboration of the sound master Camelio Cripta.

If These Trees Could Talk, like a few bands that are brave enough to transcend the genre gap, throws a curious listener into a realm where post-rock and post-metal are entrancingly intertwined. The modest band from Akron, Ohio delves into the heavier side of things on their sophomore release, Red Forest, and it shows through excessive distortion and low power chords to assist the gradual buildup in their songs, more akin to something like Russian Circles than it would be to Explosions in the Sky. While mentioning similar and contrasting qualities of bands, however, If These Trees Could Talk has a comparable structure to God Is An Astronaut, using guitars to fill their full, atmospheric sound rather than synthesizers, but retaining a healthy balance of cavernous echo. This is a prominent aspect of Red Forest, each resonating instrument sounding as though it may come from miles away in the wilderness, drifting by forgotten trees and ancient hills. It's a wondrous release, and is not only thought provoking, but probes deep into the primal core of human emotion.
In relation to their debut, Above the Earth, Below the Sky, there's a lot more inclination and respect to post-metal, as heard in tracks like "Red Forest", or "Left To Rot and Rust", with low and loud bass and rhythm guitar lines, and the melody in lead and harmony screamed out in a violent shriek of a tone. The drum lines feature lots of action on tom, so as not to accentuate a bright splash with cymbals, and instead make deep, percussive resonance more forwardly important, cymbals only coming in when loud breakdowns or choruses are in progression.
The beauty of the orchestration is a mixture of violent forte, quiet buildup, and slow, somber quietude. A song like "They Speak With Knives" has a fantastic mixture of the three, with guitars moaning in the background in order to create an eerie, beautiful air in the piece. Meanwhile, the opener, "Breath Of Life", uses only a low rumbling guitar and deep reverberations in a lead tone that lie in a blatant, ominous semblance that leads beautifully into the dark, haunted milieu beautifully established by "The First Fire". There's something remarkable about the beautiful song transitions that pushes a great record up to a point of excellence, and one of those things is an uninterrupted, flowing listen.
I really wasn't sure what to expect from If These Trees Could Talk. The first record did so much for a debut that I sat staring it down, not knowing what to think. Upon listening, I concede that their sound was changed, one can't deny that. However, I think the healthy divergence is for the better - they left the action-oriented post-rock behind for more turbulent waters, and I feel that the post-metal scene fits them slightly better. And while there are plenty of elements of post-rock that remain, for old If These Trees Could Talk fans and instrumental rock loyalists in general, there's also a broadening that does justice to a wholly expanded fan set as well, enrapturing those that would be listening to something like Beware of Safety or Jesu as well as Moonlit Sailor or Tortoise. The record is a feat, and brings new light to the sound without detracting from the quality, and it's a fantastic sophomore release. - muzikdizcovery.com

Vladimir Mitreski, a bedroom DIY electronic musician, started making his own music under the stage name ‘aiRless pRoject’ in 2002, around the time of the dissolution of his high-school cover rock band called ‘Infinity’. His style varies and evolves within his albums, and could be loosely described as ambient-influenced electronica with subtle touches of IDM, downtempo/chillout, abstract, glitch, post-rock and experimental. He often adds processed guitar playing to the programming, and has also used live processed soprano and alto saxophone on many songs (a courtesy of Boro Milenkoski). Behind him are 7 LPs and 11 EPs which he self-releases on various sites like last.fm, bandcamp and the likes…

Leech was formed in 1995 by Marcel Meyer (Guitar, Piano), Urs Meyer (Guitar, Piano) and Serge Olar (Drums). Right from the start the band devoted itself to experimental instrumental music - rhythmic figures are developed and connected with floating melodies - this all fuses in an epic sound landscape where time becomes irrelevant.

From Kapa Records comes "Chapter I: The Current of Her Ocean Brings Me to My Knees", the debut EP from Slovenian act The Canyon Observer. Expect four lengthy tracks in about 30 minutes of brooding, post-rock influenced metal that builds upon lots of pulsing bass and shimmery clean passages. It's interesting to note that the heavy segments aren't so much louder and more aggressive than they are just thicker – it's like they're utilizing a really full, gritty density instead of oppressive distortion to achieve the contrast, which is kind of an interesting touch. Vocals are somewhat sparse, but when present they're generally gruff, guttural screams obscured by light effects. A little bit of droning, monotone singing appears in the background from time to time as well. "Our Universe, Written in Blood" is the standout track for me. Something about the transitions weaves this piece together more fluidly and accentuates the ominous atmosphere that lingers throughout the EP. This is a solid debut from yet another promising Slovenian band. The scene over there really seems to have a lot to offer. - Aversiononline.com

Amenra's bassplayer Maarten Kinet decided it was time for him to part ways with the band. and chose to pursue his long lost artistic love, Photography. The two journeys were no longer combinable for him. Time will unfortunately never be at our side. We wish him the best of luck on his new path, and we would like to thank him, for the blood sweat and tears he offered Amenra throughout the years.

Released just in time for a 10 days Russian winter tour, Nagykanizsa is a new collection of songs by French post hardcore group Aussitôt Mort. Just like the name of their first full length « Montuenga » (Level-Plane & Pure Pain Sugar - 2008), the name of this new record is a place the band had to cross during one of its numerous travels. Rather than releasing a second full length, Aussitôt Mort decided to share these new songs with friends : they are or will be released on various vinyl formats shared with Japaneses Heaven In Her Arms, Americans Catalyst, or on German label Adagio. Nagykanizsa is your unique chance to listen to all the songs from the 2011 recording session at studio De La Souleuvre, mixed and mastered by Guillaume Doussaud of Swan Sound Studio (Taint, Karysun, Amanda Woodward...), with Marc Euvrie (Sugartown Cabaret, Karysun, The Eye Of Time) on bass duties. This session shows a new face of Aussitôt Mort, with darker and longer songs (5 songs in 35 min). Just like the life of the band that has done many tours in France, Europe, UK, Japan and now Russia, this new CD is a long and epic journey. You'll recognize the band writing style mainly consisting of melodic guitars riffs full of effects supported by complex hammered drum riffs; but you will also enjoy the progression that the band is taking on this new recording. Every riffs, every parts of each songs last long enough to let all details, rhythms and melodies be developed. These longer songs give the listener some time to dream of far landscapes, and to imagine all moments lived by the band of travelers that is Aussitôt Mort.

North Atlantic Drift is the duo of Mike Abercrombie and Brad Deschamps. Prior to meeting in the summer of 2011, Mike was making electronic music as Transits Of Mercury, while Brad was playing in the now disbanded post-rock band Epigram. After several discussions about the music of Brian Eno, Boards Of Canada, Erik Satie, and Stars Of The Lid, the duo set up a studio in downtown Toronto to work on material that would become their debut release “Canvas”. Most of the compositions on “Canvas” are based around guitar or synthesizer loops with heavily processed percussion sounds, the sources of which range from cardboard boxes, to handclaps, shakers, and guitar pickups. The result is an album featuring 8 diverse compositions; such as the melodic, glockenspiel-lead “Waiting In The Afterglow”, the sleepy ambience of “Luminous”, the drone-influenced “Asleep In The Waiting Room” and “Cloud Atlas” - the lone track that was recorded live in the studio without loops or processing.

After a little less than two years since the release of their first EP and lots of hard work, Arms Of Ra finally releases its first album, composed with the same energy and the same drive to mash up their influences, from Tarantula Hawk, Dazzling Killmen, to Gaza or even Kickback.
"Unnamed" contains six independents songs which are all linked by the same story of a man trying to deconstruct himself and disappear from society.
If the music from this Parisian band lost in weight, it certainly gained in rage and sharpness. The voice has taken much more importance. The compositions got also much more depths, demonstrating the hours of reflections to mold these songs, and give birth to an album that’s more difficult to listen to than their first, while still keeping their own vision that goes beyond their influences.
