This is only a two track demo, but both tracks are stunning and are amongst the best tracks I've listened for a while.
Eaststrikewest are currently writing/finishing new material for their debut record, which is to be recorded in March at Stakeout Studios, London. They'll be playing weekend shows this April, May and June, and hopefully touring in July, August and September. Dates will be listed as and when they come about.

The original line-up was made in 1995, but the band did not use the name 'The Seven Mile Journey' until 1999. Since then, the band has played several different venues primarily in Denmark, but also in cities like Berlin and London. The band played some festivals in Denmark such as the Roskilde Festival, Formanova Festival and Vesterbro Festival.

"The Metamorphosis Project proves that The Seven Mile Journey can grow and evolve, that the excellent The Journey Studies was no fluke, and that they can play with the best of them."
(Why so hostile, USA)

"The Seven Mile Journey are among the best that Denmark, Scandinavia and all of Europe have to offer in the traditional postrock movement."
(Disagreement, Germany)

"Some of the musical passages are quiet and subdued...at other times complex and cascading...and at other times somewhat mind-numbing."
"Cool tracks include "Theme for the Elthenbury Massacre," "Identity Journals (Anonymous)," and "A Sanctuary for Lugubrious Tracy." Off the beaten path...executed to perfection."
(Babysue, USA)

What can anyone expect from a band, after releasing a masterpiece like 5ive's "Self Titled"?
Usually something similar, that tends to be boring by repeating the same instrumentation. That's what I expected from 5ive's new release, nevertheless I was excited to hear it. By my surprise, it was nothing I would expected!!! 5ive evolved their music, by adding some post-rock elements and giving a little tone of experimentation. Definitely one of the best albums for this year, although we are still in the beginning!

Album: Flies Are Spies From Hell - Mountain Language (EP)

Flies Are Spies From Hell began around the Summer of 2004, when we first started jamming with Fred (keys) and writing more instrumentally (we still had a singer then). Our first gig was at the infamous Crown and Cushion, Haslemere, on 2nd October 04. Since then we've played all over including Leeds, London, Chichester, Oxford, Brighton, Bognor, Guildford, Southampton.....

Basically we get together in our mates old gym, have a laugh, get pissed quite a bit, and jam music until they become songs. Some of these we record onto EPs and most get played live at some point or another. Simple really. We don’t wear sunglasses at night.

Some of the bands we have been fortunate enough to share a stage with are Russian Circles, Witches, They Don't Sleep, Last Days of Lorca, AndNoStar, UpCDownC, *Shels, Everyone to the Anderson, Our Own Devices. What we love most of all is playing gigs with promoters who put on great nights with original bands from a similar genre. Swiss concrete, My Analogue and the guys at the Joiners are great examples of such promoters. -Myspace

It's rock. It's mixed emotions. It's four dudes from the middle of nowhere doin' their thing. Rock music with charming character. Retro, psychedelic, groovy, organic. Simple as it can be. Guitar, bass, drums in love with a "soundboard". Transporting their emotions, voiceless but with lots of messages. Take your time and get your trip...chill and rock is one family!

My Sleeping Karma are confirmed for the legendary Roadburn Festival in 2008!

So, what is *Shels exactly? It is one of the finest attempts to incorporate metalcore aesthetics into a progressive rock setting. Basically, they succeed where other bands have failed. They are able to be progressive without being overtly cheesy (like, say, Between the Buried and Me's "Alaska"), and they are able to be progressive without entering realms of unnecessary pretension (like the middle of Pax Cecilia's "Blessed are the Bonds"). Sure, we could throw out a list of comparisons to groups like Kayo Dot or Isis in hopes that some of their fans might streamline through this review and check them out, but *Shels really doesn't embrace the arty atmosphere of either band. Everything on this album is meticulously arranged, but is also grounded in a solid base genre of metalcore. Essentially, I guess it is the best of both worlds; complete originality and full blown clichés. Whatever is the key to *Shels successful formula, it works and "Sea of the Dying Dhow" effortlessly proves that.
