Arktika are back with their third album „Symmetry“. The sound of Arktika is still very standalone: elements of post-rock mix with heavy sludge parts, glimpses of 90es emocore are enhanced with deep atmospheric melodies. The vocals sound angry and desperate while the lyrics deal with personal issues. „Symmetry“ contains five new songs and has a running time of roughly 40 Minutes. The album was recorded by Sebastian Blaschke at Gottesweg Studios in Cologne and was mastered by Dan Coutant at Sunroom Mastering New York.

Universe217 is one of the most vibrant heavy acts in Greece nowadays, with lots of gigs across the country and steadily frequent record releases. The band’s impressive performance on stage (whether it’s live shows with other Greek bands, festival slots or supporting international artists like Amenra, Anathema, Madder Mortem, Om, Saint Vitus, Scott Kelly, Wovenhand, Karma To Burn etc) has earned them an excellent reputation as a live act. Up to now, the band has released 2 full-length CDs (“Universe217” – 2007, “Familiar Places” – 2011), an EP (“II” – 2009) and a 7’’ vinyl split-single with Lucky Funeral (2009), with the new album “Never” being the most recent addition in its discography.
“Never” is released on vinyl LP and CD by Catch the Soap Productions on March 2013.
The down-tempo music style marks the spot where doom metal meets influences derived from more experimental or melodic forms of the rock sound spectrum, sometimes leading even to sonic outbursts which ignore the rules about perfect musicianship. If you combine this characteristic with the dynamic voice of singer Tanya (she is one of the best female rock singers in Greece, and in this album she sounds more mature and flexible than ever before), you get a result where the band’s sound is just the vehicle by which the listener experiences an atmosphere where he is “forced” to face uncomfortable emotional states, like when things are getting out of hand, when all control is lost, and the expectation of an ecstatic delirium seems to be the only way out.

Nothing But Hope And Passion is the music magazine for everyone who thinks a bit more about life, who wants to get a bit more from life and who gives a bit more to live.
Post-rock is a genre that is more than a genre. It is a wide field of music that stands for a feeling and a lifestyle. This is, besides that we have our roots in this scene, Nothing But Hope And Passion dedicates the third sampler of the “Nothing But…” series to post-rock. After the “Nothing But… Synthgaze” and the “Nothing But… Indie Pop” compilation, “Nothing But… Post-Rock” is another compilation to dive into a special musical genre. This time a very special and very broad one. This compilation of pure post-rock awesomeness is up for free download from now on. A compilation that definitely is a must have for every post-rock fan. And at the same time a compilation that shows that the Belgian Dunk!Festival is the European post-rock festival!
Nothing But Hope And Passion set together thirteen tracks by thirteen acts from all over the world and unites all of them on one compilation, including previously unreleased and new material by Collapse Under The Empire and Kokomo.
“Nothing But… Post-Rock” starts with the Italian avant-garde post-rock act Platonick Dive who released their debut-album Therapeutic Portrait in their home country earlier this year (the album will be released in other countries in August, followed by an extended European tour.). Song number two comes from the German band Kokomo who premiere the song Kaputt Finker taken from their self-titled new album (out March 29th). Another previously unreleased track follows. This time by Collapse Under The Empire (also from Germany) who premiere their new single, We Are Close As This, on this free sampler. The song All Shall Float by Junius (USA) latest album Reports From The Threshold Of Death is one of the few songs on “Nothing But… Post-Rock” that is not instrumental but also features vocals. Maserati from the USA are one of the headliners at Dunk!Festival 2013. With The Elliminator these guys bring a touch of insanity to the compilation. Feel free to dance, drive fast or run away to this song. Lost In Kiev from France will release their debut-album Motions at Dunk!Records and follow with the song Hope Fight And Desillusion. Arms And Sleepers from the USA are currently touring Europe (presented by Nothing But Hope And Passion and contribute to “Nothing But… Post-Rock with The Catcher Elsewhere, taken from their split-EP with THE American Dollar. From America also come If These Trees Could Talk, who released their latest album, Red Forest, last year. The song They Speak With Knives is one of the most outstanding songs of the album and featured on our compilation. The next song, Afterglow, comes from the Austrian band Our Ceasing Voice who shortly released their new album That Day Last November. With Sleepmakeswaves‘ song (Hello) Cloud Mountain a song from Australia found its way on “Nothing But… Post-Rock”. Another new song follows with The Shaking Sensations‘ track Rocket Summer (taken from the band’s upcoming album Start Stop Worrying). Stories From The Lost (Belgium) released their debut-album at Dunk!Records in 2012 and simply cannot be missing on a sampler like this. At last year’s Dunk!Festival the Portuguese band The Allstar Project has been one of the acts. Now they contribute with Not All A Dream to “Nothing But Post-Rock”. Last but not least the compilation ends with a song called Our Lives Are All Very Forgettable Events In The Universe by Withyouathome from Thailand.
Post-rock might be the music to get lost in reminiscences. Music that often has a certain touch of escapism. And it is escapism we all long for now and then. Plastic Violins Of Darkness is a one-man army from Leipzig with a self-released debut of atmospheric, stoner infused space rock that, though dark and heavy, escapes gravity and any hints of oppressiveness with a wide-open vista of sounds. Taking leads from 90s electronic ambient and post-industrial music, Plastic Violins Of Darkness also tips its hat to metal without relying on the repetitive riff. Cuts like the cascading Triskaidekaphobia offer up the requisite grind, but going for the patient slow-burn gives Plastic Violins Of Darkness a good dose of enigmatic expanse that keeps it free-floating without taking away from the heft. Full of texture and ‘unavoidable artificial aspects,’ Plastic Violins Of Darkness keeps the journey moving forward and swinging wide without meandering into mopey formlessness. With flight times between 12 and 20+ minutes, it would be easy to veer off into the void and lose your way—and there is much in Plastic Violins Of Darkness to make you feel unanchored and untethered—but our pilot keeps purpose in mind as the tracts of space go by. How did Toronto’s Old World Vulture come to produce the hulking slabs of synth-heavy instrumental rock they’ve built their reputation on? Call it a happy accident.
Musically, their backgrounds are diverse: Mike Costanzo (guitar) and Anthony Perri (bass) played together in a band with a penchant for Guided by Voices-inspired rock, Devin Hughes (synthesizers) was a member of a pop-rock band, and Jamie Hunter (drums) was a singer-songwriter. When the band formed in 2008 , the idea was to breathe new life into abandoned songs from previous projects. Instrumental music wasn’t the intention, but it quickly became apparent that doing away with lyrics was an avenue worth exploring. It was an opportunity to push melody without using a microphone, to experiment with dynamics and maybe cause a little tinnitus along the way.
Prefaced by a trio of digital singles, the band independently released their self-titled EP in 2010 and quickly set out to make a mark on Canada’s instrumental music scene. Recorded at Audiolab Recording Company in Toronto by Chris Hegge (Fucked Up, Meligrove Band), the six songs debuted the electronic-versus-analogue nature of their sound; where curious rhythms and uplifting synth melodies float above a sinister and aggressive foundation. Perhaps best outlined by !earshot, the band can “make your skin crawl and make you take a deep cleansing breath all within the space of a single song.”

Behzad Mehrnoosh started as a side project to get away from the tense environment of bands and to straggle any limitations or restrains in the music. The whole reason as to creating the project was so I could do whatever I wanted, without having to deal with any of the moral or idealistic consequence. This is me trying to break my shackles.
In his words : I am a part-time student/part-time musician. The combination of the two isn’t exactly preferable and therefore, at times the process of music writing/recording tends to take a bit more time than it normally should. As for now, everything is and has been done on an amateur level, which means that all of the recordings and mastering have been done in my home “studio”. If not noted on an album or a song, then everything you hear is and has also been recorded by myself. Even the packaging of the physical records and releasing them has so far been done completely DIY-style, with the help of some good friends.

On Pris À La Gorge, Quebecois act Milanku craft extremely solid post-metal-type post-rock, with a couple moments during this nearly hour-long affair that elevate them from just "bon" to "très bon."
Maybe it's a little ignorant or xenophobic to say, but these guys remind me of a heavier Envy, because they're essentially shouting a foreign language (to me) over a dark downbeat (with some occasional spoken-word, like on "La Nausée"). It's nonetheless awesome at times. Opener "La Chute" is a great example summing up what the band does so well: roll along at a slower tempo with moody, atmospheric rhythms that give way into harsh, growled, crushing juggernauts that warrant comparisons to Envy's sorta contemporaries Isis or Cult Of Luna.
This is the type of album where one's interest might slip away during some of the more restrained, building sections, but there are those aforementioned junctures that reel you back in hard. It's also sort of same-y (the acoustic and piano brushes on the album's shortest song, closer "Antigone," are a refreshing touch), but some times are more beautiful than others: Probably my favorite song here, "Inhibition" begins with this guitar interplay where the tone is basically perfect, and near the end when the harsh, slightly distorted yells come in while one of the guitar tracks drops out-I have no other way to describe it but "cool as fuck." It's a pick-me-up transition for sure, something that's needed more when the almost too-subtle dynamics of something like "Hypomanic" saunter through.
Still, this is an impressive long-player overall. If you like this style, it's hard to go wrong checking out Milanku's offering here. - punknews.org

Drawing The Endless Shore - is an IDM/trip-hop solo-project of Ukrainian musician Sergey Lunev (also known as The Best Pessimist). Band was formed in 2010 and the next year, he released his first full-length album “Don’t Despair” on Flowers Blossom In The Space label.
